You sat anxiously on the couch and waited for a knock on the door. You had invited Thomas over for coffee while Riley was helping Peter fix up his car. You hadn't seen him in almost 17 years, so, you had no idea what to expect.

'Knock Knock'

You quickly got up and took a deep breath before opening the door.

"Hey, Roxy."

"Hi, Thomas."

"You gonna let me in?"

"Yeah, sorry."

He came in sat sat on the couch. You closed the door and joined him. Your heart was pounding and your palms were sweating. Somehow, he made you feel the same way he did when you were teenagers.

"How've you been, Rox?"

"Good."

"You still a nurse?"

"Yeah. I'm a home health aide. I take car of this man-"

"Where's Riley?"

"Um, she's out with a friend."

"You said that I could see her."

"You will. I just wanted to talk to you first."

"What do you wanna talk about?"

"Where are you living now?"

"St. Louis."

"You like it?"

"Is that her?" He asked as he pointed to a photo.

"Yeah. That's her 8th grade graduation."

"She's beautiful."

"Yeah, she is."

You heard laughing coming from the hallway before the door opened. Riley and Peter walked in and smiled.

"Hey, Mom."

"You weren't supposed to bring her home for another hour." You told him.

"She was insistent on coming home."

"Who's this?"

"Riley, this is-"

"You don't remember me?" He asked as he walked over to her.

"Should I?"

"I'm your dad."

"What?"

"Hey, babygirl."

He wrapped his arms around her, which she did not reciprocate.

"Please, don't touch me."

He let go and smiled.

"So, what are you, a sophomore?"

"Senior."

"Aren't you a little young for that?"

"I skipped the 1st grade. But, you'd know that if you bothered to stick around."

"I really did missed you, Riley."

"Then why didn't you call?"

"I-"

"Why didn't you stop by?"

"Riley-"

"Why now? Why all of a sudden?"

"Hailey told me I should get to know you."

"Hailey?" You asked.

"My wife."

"You're married?"

"12 years this summer. We've actually got a little who's a few years younger than you."
