Ф Many Years Later

'A man, his wife, and their child which she carried in his arms fled from their house with their recently made bags as a group of men dressed in dark clothes shot through the windows of their large family home.

"Lucille, listen to me" the man made his wife turn to face him by grabbing her by her upper arms "I'm going to try and distract them and I want you to leave now with Madeline as fast as you can" he took a bracelet he had in his pocket and handed it over to the woman "You know to give this when she is old enough"

The whip was easily placed like a bracelet and was gold with small indents resembling scales. A snake head on one end, poking out its sharp tongue, and a coiled tail on the other end.

Lucille Salvatore nodded and cupped her husband's face, bringing him in for a farewell kiss

Lucille Salvatore nodded and cupped her husband's face, bringing him in for a farewell kiss.

"We'll go to San Francisco" she told him "An old family member of mine moved there and she will gladly welcome us. I know, I know..." she cut him off before he could speak "...but, just in case"

They gave each other one more goodbye kiss, the man planting one on his daughter's head as the child slept, and the woman ran down into the garage.

As fast as she could with her daughter in one hand, the bags hanging off her back and the adrenaline from hearing the noises of glass breaking and furniture being thrown about, she unhooked the keys to the black Cadillac XLR they had down there.

As carefully as she could in that situation, she placed her daughter in the kiddie seat behind her and slipped into the driver's seat.

Lucille stuck the keys in the ignition and turned them roughly, the car starting up smoothly with a low purr before she put her foot down on the gas pedal so hard the tires screeched.

The garage door had already been open so the black car flew out of the house silently through the back. Just in case, she closed the door with the remote so it didn't look as if they had left the house.

From her mirror she saw them light the house on fire which made her bite her lips and hold back the tears that were threatening to fall.

"Come on, the boss said to leave the mother and the girl to burn" a burly man told the others as he hung up the phone he was holding.

Another man wearing a full faced white mask looked off into the distance thinking he had heard something, his daggers still stuck inside the man's dead corpse, before another man grabbed the body he was still kneeling besides and threw it into the fire.

The masked man touched his bleeding side from where the other man had struck him. The boss would not be happy to see he had gotten injured so easily.

Lucille Salvatore and her two-year-old daughter, Madeline Liu, had made it safely to San Francisco where the woman's aunt greeted them fondly.

Soon they were settled in the comfortable way of life the older woman lived in the American city and Madeline was enrolled in the closest school to the house.

When she was 17 and about to graduate early, Madeline received the worst news about her mother having been in a drunk driving accident. The Salvatore family lamented the loss of the good woman and Madeline spent the first year at university in a sullen mood and isolated herself from others.

Until another year later when she turned 19, a freshman had approached her, despite her being one grade higher, and introduced herself as Katy Chen. The girl turned her life around and they finished their years at the Californian university together.

Ф 5 Years Later (Age 23)

Katy had managed to get Madeline a job as a valet parking cars in a hotel called Fairmont despite Katy's mother's protests for her to get a better job, but Madeline convinced the woman and her great-aunt that it was just a way to make extra cash while they sorted their lives.

"I don't think you've ever met my friend Shaun" her friend told her.

"Shaun? I think I've heard you speak of him a few times but you are correct" Madeline said as she unbuttoned her red vest from work and popped open a beer can with her hand.

"Well, he's coming to work with us tomorrow so you'll have plenty of time to make friendsies" Katy said as she took the beer from the Italian girl.

"Hey"

The next day while, Madeline was parking a customer's car, a young Asian man approached her. Madeline looked up as he was a bit taller than her and she admired his features before she raised one brow, urging him to speak up.

"Oh right" he cleared his throat "Hi I'm Shaun and I was supposed to have an interview here today"

'Oh, he must be Katy's friend' Madeline.

"Of course, but you're a bit late, aren't you?" she asked him.

"Yes, I'm sorry the bus was late and..." when the man tried explaining himself and asking for an explanation himself a shout alerted them of another's presence.

"Shaun! There you are amigo" Katy looped her arm through the young man's "Come on or you'll be late for your interview. I see you've met Madeline and I'm sure you'll have enough time for chit chat later. Let's go"

The man looked back at the pretty dark-haired woman as he followed his childhood friend to the employer's office.

That night Katy introduced the two of them properly and they went from there'
