I wake up to Alan shaking me violently and whispering my name. "Edith! Edith wake up!" He says shaking me more. I groan and turn to face the wall of his guest bedroom. I am not in the mood to wake up right now. I bury my face into my pillow.
"Whaaaaaaat." I mumble. He jumps on my bed and removes the pillow from my face and throws it across the room. He grabs me and turns me over. "What? It's Sunday Alan I want to sleep.
"What did you tell the police yesterday?" He gives me a confused look. Shit.
"Why?" I ask.
"They're coming here today to question Austin, Aaron, Phil and I." He says. I sit up and run a hand through my hair. "Edith. What did you tell them?" He asks sternly. I gulp and sit up facing Alan and tell him everything. I tell him how my dad wanted us to lie, and how that didn't work out so well considering the fact that the police will be here again.
"Shit. Shit fucking fuck shit. What do I do?" He asks looking so scared, I feel terrible. "I don't wanna go to jail for what your dumbass dad did! You need to tell the police it was him!" I gasp and remember what my dad said he would do to me if I did that...
"No... my dads friends will kill me and Kat..." I say as I start to look down. Alan sighs and scoots over to me. He rubs my back and pulls me closer to him.
"Hey. No one's gonna kill you ok? I won't let that happen to you. Who is it anyways?" He asks me. I lean back and look at him with pain in my eyes from past memories. I could just feel the pain in my body return to me as I remember the horrid things those men did to me....
"Do you really wanna know?" I ask. Alan nods and a sigh and look down.
"Ok so... It was in fifth grade. For about a week whenever I would come home from school my dad would have these 3 guys over... They were all really tall and could literally pick up my couch like it was a 2 pound dumbbell." I pull my knees into my chest and try hard to remember. "I came home one day... it was a Friday. I went up to my room and started doing this project where I had to build a little house, and one of my pieces was a small ball that the kid inside the house was playing with. I dropped it and it rolled out my door and rolled off the staircase, falling onto one of the mens head. I... I went downstairs to grab it and...." I close my eyes. "... next thing I know I'm in the air headed face first into my kitchen wall. I turned around to see what happened but I saw my dad cheering this one guy on. They a fist hits my face and he picks me up by the arm, breaking it. He caused so much damage and my bone was sticking out of my arm. I had to have surgery to fix it all. The story to everyone was that I fell while climbing a tree..."
I open my eyes again and run my fingers over the scar from the surgery. Alan looks at me and does the same, he looks absolutely horrified. "Now can you see why I'm afraid to say anything?" Alan looks at me for a minute, a blank expression. I can't tell if he doesn't care or doesn't know what to say. He closes his eyes and pulls me into the tightest hug I've ever gotten from him.
"I'm so sorry all of this happens to you Edith... I really am. If I could have all of this happen to me I would but I promise, if anything else happens I want you to tell me ok?" He let's go of me and I stare back at him and nod.
"Ok Alan." I say starting to smile. He gets up off my bed and begins to walk out.
"Get ready. Everyone's gonna be here in about an hour. You'll have to wait outside or something when the police show up but we can all hang out after. Maybe invite Kat over. See if her parents will let her leave." He says walking out the door, shutting it behind him. I crawl out of my bed and walk over to the guest bathroom, where there's an assortment of clothes that I've left here over the past for me to wear now. I can't go back to my house for another week or so to get clothes and other things.
