-Edith's P.O.V.-
Keep running. Keep running. Keep running! I think to myself. If I stop there's no way I will see another day. I hear muffled grunts and heavy breathing behind me getting closer and closer, I can tell that I'm slowing down. I can't keep this up forever, I have to give in at some point...
Maybe I should just give in, it's not like if I made it out alive that I would feel any better. I'm pretty sure that I got all of my friends killed in this process, so I don't see any point in trying anymore. It's just not worth it, I have no one else.
"Get her! Hurry up!" Shouts a familiar voice behind me, my stupid fucking dad. I quick jolt my head around to see him and three other guys running up hill towards me. I sprint, my feet moving so fast that they don't even feel as if they're touching the ground. I don't even know where I'm going. I don't even know where I am.
This is hopeless.
I turn my attention from the ground back to what's in front of me. Wack! I let out a small scream as I trip over a tree branch and fall into a small river. I feel a sharp pain on the left side of my body, right above me hip. Fuck! There are some sharp rocks in this river. Small cries escalate from my throat as I watch blood seep from the fresh wound. This is where it ends Edith...
I hear the footsteps approach and a sudden burst of motivation rises in me. It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees, I remember hearing once. I stumble quickly through the river as the cold wind hits my wet clothes. I rip off my sweatshirt and toss it over my shoulder and trudge to the other side of the river.
The cold breeze chills the air and my wet clothes as I shiver. This isn't gong to turn out well no matter what happens, I think to myself. I step out of the river and kick off my soaked shoes and decide to go barefoot for the rest of this high speed chase. My feet are freezing and as I begin to pick up my pace I feel the pain intensify as sticks and small rocks jab their way into my feet.
I turn to see the men closer than they've ever been to me and hope starts to fade. Just give up! You have nothing to live for! My mind taunts me. I try to shake the thoughts while tears brim in my eyes as a result.
A breeze creeps it's way through the trees and I shiver as my wet clothes turn to icicles on my body. I take a quick right and I'm soon met with a familiar hill, with a large amount of bushes at it's peak. That place that Austin showed me! That has to be it! I think to myself. A single shred of hope glimmers in my heart as I run up the hill with extreme excitement. I turn to see no men in sight and I look up towards to top of the hill.
This is my one shot.
I turn my body to face the hill and I dash up as quickly as I am able to. My adrenaline is pumping at full blast and I feel almost invincible. Nothing can stop me now! I think as I burst through the bushes.
A glimmer of hope shines inside of me as the lake enters my sight. This is it! I'm going to make it! I think as I start to slow down. I feel something creep across my lips, it almost seems foreign, so unfamiliar. A smile... maybe there is hope for me.
The voices behind me begin to fade away as they lose sight of me and where I am. If I just hide out here long enough I can find my friends, if they aren't dead. I quickly jog down the hill and I feel something creep it's way around my ankle. This can't be good, this is wrong. As I lift up my foot it jerks me backwards and my body begins to twist and tumble down the hill.
Crack!
Roll after roll more cuts and scratches appear due to the severe amount of sticks and twigs scattered across the path before me. Finally I come to a halt at the bottom of the hill, bleeding from my hands, knees, face, and elbows. Reality hits me and I begin to quietly cry out in pain, watching the blood pour out quicker than I thought it would. But the worst hadn't even occurred to me yet.
Shocked and petrified I crane up my neck to see the after math of what caused me to fall, my foot.
I gasp. "Oh my god no! No No No NO! OWWWWW" I scream out. I immediately cover my mouth with my hands hoping that I didn't give away my position, but this sight was the worst I've ever seen.
My foot, completely mangled and bloody, I almost can'trecognize it with a bone sticking out of it. The shock of the event wears off and as I become more aware of what's happened to my foot I begin to feel it more.
My screams echo through the air as I try and numb the pain but nothing works. This has it to be it for me. This has got to be the end.
My eyes shut slowly as I black out...
