"I don't understand,"
I hear Alex say from upstairs. He's with our parents, and they're having a long and hard conversation about Alex's actions, that Hector insisted that I stay down in the basement. I wanted to know what they were talking about though. My mind was curious for information. They've been talking for a good hour that I was getting bored. I wanted something to do. I wanted to know what was going on. Well, maybe I could, if I sneak around and find out what they're talking about. I head to the stairs, and open the door very quietly. "We talked to Cashmere's mother, Jasmine, and we had learned information from the night you went missing," Hector had told without seeing me sneaking by the living room and entering the kitchen by getting through the legs of the table. "And?" Alex had asked, his voice breaking. "She's pregnant, with your kid," Ellie had told him. Pregnant, that's a funny word. "How did this happen?" Alex had asked, starting to cry with his voice cracking. "This happened when you were drunk and you don't remember what happened after you played at Big Band Night," Hector had told him. "Now, since we still don't know how you got drunk we can't jump to conclusions just yet, right Ellie?" Hector had asked her. "Yes. Now I've been meaning to talk to your teacher, Mr. Hudson about this, cause it seems like he might know more about it," Ellie had told us. "I was originally going to wait until after Christmas, but since Cashmere is pregnant, this changes things," Ellie had added. "So if you want, you can come with us when we talk to him," Ellie had finished. "I think I'm good," Alex had told them while he dried his tears with his sleeve rolled up on his right hand. Man, I never knew that my brother could be capable of doing many things that would tick off mom and dad. "Okay. We're low on dairy products, and we have to be at my sister's place tonight for dinner, so your dad and I are going to be grocery shopping," Ellie had told Alex. I couldn't wait to see cousin Jason tonight. "Stay out of trouble," Hector had told Alex while they headed out the door with their coats and boots on, with Alex still at the table, feeling like an unwanted fool. "Is everything okay?" I had asked Alex, peaking my head out from behind the island in the kitchen. "What were you doing behind there?" Alex had asked once I walked towards him, trying not to trip on my nightgown. "I wanted to know what's going on," I told him.
"What's wrong?" I had asked, reaching for his hand, but he refused to hold it. "You wouldn't understand," he had told me while he looked away. "You don't think I'd understand that one night you were missing, but were actually drunk and humping someone?" I had asked. "Where did you learn that word?" He had asked. I never said that word out-loud before. "You didn't hear anything," I had told him once I realized that I shouldn't have said that. "How long were you behind there?" He had asked. "Not long, but long enough to find out what's going on. You got someone pregnant?" I had finally asked. "Yeah I did. It's been awhile since I've seen her. I normally talk to Michael about these things, but mom and dad said I shouldn't," he had told me. "Ever heard of going behind someone's back? Mom and dad are out now, you can call him up if you want," I had told him, giving him an idea. "If I tell him, will you come with me?" Alex had asked. "Of course, I would never leave you alone," I had told him. I'm the kind of sister that supports someone; I don't leave people to their own devices. Alex had got his phone out and texted him, asking him to meet with him at the park near the school. Since Alex doesn't drive, and Hector and Ellie were using it, we walked to the park, since it wasn't that long of a walk anyway.
Once we were there, and had our coats, tuques and boots on, we waited for Michael to show up. I had brushed snow off a swing set, and Alex had lightly pushed me on it. I enjoy being on the swing set. We waited a good 5 minutes until Michael had showed up. Alex had stopped pushing the swing, and walked up to Michael as I lowered my legs into the snow to stop the swinging motion. "You wanted to talk to me?" Michael had asked once I had caught up to Alex. "Now, whatever happens you can't swear, my sister wanted to tag along," Alex had told. He's very protective of me, and I love that about him. "What's going on?" Michael had asked, confused more than ever. "Remember Big Band Night? Well apparently somehow I had got drunk due to Mr. Hudson and Mr. Jazler, I don't remember the rest of the night from my perspective, my parents told me and I saw the video, but from what I was told and what I saw, I had a drunk marriage that I had no idea about, and I had slept with the woman, causing her to get pregnant," Alex had told him. "Man, I'm so sorry about all that. Have you seen the woman at all?" Michael had asked. "No, I haven't seen her. Apparently she goes by the name of Cashmere Oberon," Alex had told him. "You fucking slept with my ex? How could you?" Michael had asked. I wasn't prepared to hear him swear. "Michael please, my sister-", Alex had tried to tell him, but Michael had cut him off with, "I never want to fucking see you again." Alex was now crying, and I hugged him before we headed home. "Meanie," I told Michael before I kicked him in the balls. He had fallen over in pain, with his hand over his crotch, but it's what he deserved.
