Daksh was dozing off in his room when a loud knock jolted him awake. He got up to answer the door and found Roshni standing there, her eyes barely open.
"What's up, Roshni?" he asked.
"I can't sleep! My foot is killing me, and it's all your fault!" she snapped.
"I can't believe you're cursing at me right now. If you want to go through this morning's drama again, feel free to keep cursing. But for now, just come in," he replied.
With a huff, she stomped into the room and flopped down on Daksh's bed, lying on her stomach.
"Get me some painkillers, quick! I can't get any rest," she mumbled, her hand reaching out while her face was buried in the pillow.
"Forget the painkillers. I'll give you a massage instead. Just roll over and maybe change into something more comfortable. You're still in that suit," he suggested.
"I don't want to move at all," she groaned, not budging an inch.
Daksh gently turned her onto her back and looked at her, noticing her eyes still shut.
Why do you need me to change? Just massage my leg. You're such an idiot. I can't argue with you," she said, finally sitting up a bit as he started to press her leg with his hands.
"Daksh... is Ayaan mad at me? He didn't talk to me like he usually does. Is it because Mom left and you all think I'm a burden?" she asked, her gaze drifting off.
"He cares about you. You had a fever, right? But you still went out in the rain and didn’t tell me you were eating those fried rolls. If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t say anything at all. He’d just let you do whatever," he reassured her.
"Still," she whispered.
"Look, if I love you, I’m going to scold you, argue with you, and tell you what’s right and wrong because I care about you and don’t want you to get hurt. That’s why he was upset. He knew you were sick and even knocked on your door to bring you medicine, but you didn’t answer," he explained, moving his hands up her leg gently.
"I'm not a burden, right?" she said, her voice trembling as if she might break down at any moment.
"Why are you thinking like that? Stop overthinking and just understand. And don’t you dare cry," he warned her, sounding more like he was giving a command.
"Do I need to apologize to him then?"
"No, not to him. But tomorrow, when you get to school, I want you to say sorry to your teacher, got it?" He watched as she nodded in agreement.
He continued to massage her leg until he noticed she had fallen asleep.
"Why are you creating fake scenarios in your head, baccha? Don’t do that," he murmured to the sleeping Roshni, gently stroking her face. After kissing her forehead, he grabbed a pillow and moved to the couch to get some rest.
ROSHNI'S P.O.V
When I woke up, I found Daksh sleeping on the couch. I quickly checked the time—it was only five in the morning. I jumped out of bed, went through my morning routine, and got dressed in my school uniform. After getting ready, I headed to the kitchen to make breakfast for everyone.
As I served it, I made a smiley face with heart eyes on Daksh's plate using chocolate syrup, and a crying face on Ayaan's plate.
I glanced at the clock; it was just seven. Suddenly, someone snuck up behind me and grabbed a pancake from my plate. I looked up to see Ayaan munching on it.
"That’s not your plate! I set yours over there; don’t steal mine!" I exclaimed. He just stuck his tongue out and playfully patted my forehead.
"Don't go to school today; just rest. You have a fever," he said, sitting down next to me.
"Why is my breakfast crying?" he asked, making me giggle just as Daksh walked in.
"Good morning, Roshni! You really don’t have to do all this; I can handle breakfast, and Aunt will take care of lunch and dinner," he said, smiling as he dug into his food, which I had decorated with heart eyes.
"Roshni, after this, go, change into something comfortable," Ayaan instructed.
"Why?" Daksh asked, looking puzzled.
"She has a fever, so I want to check on her. Who knows, she might just be trying to avoid taking her medicine," Ayaan said, poking my cheek playfully.
"I'm good, really. Just getting ready because I don’t want to be cooped up at home. It feels so lonely in this empty house, " I said while fiddling with my breakfast.
Daksh grabbed it from my hand and popped it into my mouth.
"Don’t you want to hang out with me? I’m on leave," Ayaan said with a dramatic flair.
"No way! What if you get a call and have to dash out?"
"Alright, enough of this. Ayaan, you check her right now in front of me, and you, madam, are staying home," Daksh said, cutting us both off.
"Okay, bhabhi , meet me in the living room," Ayaan mumbled the last part to himself but i hear him very clearly. But I'm not going to day anything. His mom always says that she wanted me as her daughter-in-law but now things are different.
After breakfast, Daksh and I were lounging on the couch while Ayaan sat in a chair across from us.
"Daksh, he’s still in his internship. Why is he checking me? Let me just go to school."
"I’m hurt! You think I don’t know how to handle a fever? Wow, thanks for the compliment, miss," he replied, sticking a thermometer in my mouth.
Daksh wrapped his arms around me.
After checking my temperature, he listened to my heart and lungs, all while grinning. I held onto Daksh’s arms tightly.
"Alright, most of that’s done. Now it’s your turn to tell me if you feel any pain," Ayaan asked.
"I’ve got a slight stomach ache and a mild headache, but that’s it! I’m totally fine," I said, leaning more into Daksh.
Finally, Daksh lifted me onto his lap.
"What are you doing? Let me go! Are you trying to treat me like a fucking little kid?" I exclaimed, quickly covering my mouth.
"Roshni, what did I say last night? Do you want to go back to that position? If not, sit quietly and stop cursing," he replied firmly, while Ayaan watched us.
"Here’s the medicine. Take it on time, and don’t forget. If your fever spikes, I’ll have to give you an injection, and then don’t whine like a kid," Ayaan said, emphasizing the last word.
Just then, he got a call while I rested my head on Daksh’s shoulder.
"Bhaiya, I can't stay. we need to head to Delhi. I'm really sorry, Roshni. You weren't wrong, but if her fever gets worse, take her to another doctor. Bye!" He said as he dashed to his room to grab his bag.
"See? I told you he wouldn't hang around; he's too busy for that."
"Alright, but let me know if you want to go to school or not. If you're not feeling well, just stay home. I can come back early, like around three or four."
"That's not early, Daksh! I'm going," I replied, heading to my room to grab my school bag.
"Make sure to sit in the front row and focus on your studies. No chatting during class; save that for lunch," he advised me while driving.
"I will! Bye! But please pick me up if you can," I said as i hopped out of the car.
I sprinted to my classroom while Daksh parked the car, got out, and headed into the school after checking in with the principal and signing the attendance register before entering the staff room.
I know his schedule too.
