"Daksh, I'm alright now. Please don't take me there, please," Roshni pleaded, her voice trembling slightly.
Daksh ignored her and confirmed the appointment on his phone.
"Roshni, don't delay. If you do, we'll have to reschedule. Let's go I've put everything in order. It already took an hour to arrange," he said, his tone firm. Roshni just turned her face away.
"I won't go with you. I'm not even feeling weak," she mumbled stubbornly.
"Yeah, I saw that when we were coming upstairs. Let's go," Daksh insisted.
"I'll never take any pills now. I promise. No contraceptive pills, I promise," she said, holding up her pinky finger.
"Roshni, I'll be with you, okay?" Daksh said, hooking his pinky with hers.
"Why don't you talk to Mom? She also runs a hospital, and she's a doctor too. Why do we have to go? Ayaan is an intern that's why he isn't giving medicine on his own. You ask Mom, please. I don't want to go," Roshni said nervously, fiddling with her fingers.
"Roshni…" Daksh began.
"Please, Daksh," she interrupted, showing him her teary eyes.
"Mom will be angry," he said with a sigh, pulling out his phone.
"Once I call Mom, even if you insist, I won't take you anywhere. Keep that in mind," he said, dialing her number, and stepped out to talk.
After about half an hour, Daksh returned. Roshni looked at him curiously.
"She told me she'll talk to Ayaan… I don't know about what, so don't ask," he said, lying down on the bed, covering his face.
"You talked for half an hour, and that's all you talked about?" Roshni asked, shaking him slightly.
"Yeah. She scolded me before that. Ayaan will come, so let him handle it. You won't take those pills unless it's recommended we don't want to put you on birth control unnecessarily," he said, taking her hand in his.
"I'm sorry. Actually, it slipped my mind, that's why I forgot to use protection. It won't happen again," he added, kissing her forehead gently.
"We'll only plan for a child after your studies, okay? And if by any chance you get pregnant, don't take pills. I'll take care of our child. I love kids, so don't take pills to 'kill' them, okay?" he said, cupping her face tenderly.
Roshni nodded cutely.
"But… don't forget me after our kid," she whispered. Daksh pulled her cheeks, kissing her whole face.
"Oh, I forgot something. I received a text today from—"
"I'm sorry," she cut him off, holding her ears.
"Freaking busted… does that sound like 'sorry'?" he said, raising his eyebrows.
"I'm so sorry… he was deliberately trying to make me angry," she said, trying to change the topic.
"Don't you feel even a little scared of me?" he teased, twisting her ears gently.
"I'm sorry! I won't do it again. Please leave my ears they hurt," she pleaded, holding his hand.
"I won't let this topic go if you do it again," he warned, playfully pinching her side.
"Don't! It's hurting," she said, hugging herself.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
"I'll open it, it must be Ayaan," Daksh said.
"Don't go! Don't open the door!" Roshni exclaimed.
"He's your sweet Ayaan, the one you run to for every little thing," Daksh teased, ruffling her hair, and went to the door.
He opened it to find Ayaan looking at his phone, smiling.
"Mom scolded you, right? Why didn't you connect me too? She was so angry about the pills. By the way, she was even scolding you while talking to me," Ayaan said, passing a teasing smile.
"Mom sent me a list of questions. Let's start a Q&A session it'll be fun. She'll regret not visiting the doctor," he said, suppressing a laugh.
They entered the room and looked toward Roshni.
"So, sir and ma'am, please take your seats," Ayaan said in a mock-professional tone while laughing quietly.
Roshni smiled, and they both sat down. Ayaan perched on a chair, trying to maintain composure.
"So, ma'am, what's your name?" he asked. Roshni giggled.
"Roshni Agnihotri."
"Your husband's name?"
"Daksh Agnihotri."
"Your age?"
"18," Roshni replied, giggling again. Daksh smiled at her.
"And your husband's age?"
"25, but he'll be 26 next month."
"Okay… why did you marry an older man?" Ayaan asked, laughing despite his professional tone. Roshni giggles and Hi-Fi Ayaan.
"Okay, be serious. Don't feel shy. Answer truthfully are your periods regular?"
"Hmm…"
"What's the date? Can you mention it?"
"22 on every month," she said, looking at Daksh, who blinked at her confirming.
"So your date is yet to come?" Ayaan mumbles and scribbles into his notepad.
"When was the last time you were intimate?"
Roshni glanced at Daksh.
"Last week," Daksh answered on her behalf.
"So, Roshni, when did you start taking pills?" Ayaan asked, looking at her.
"I took it last night… after which I vomited," she admitted.
Ayaan eyed suddenly snapped to Roshni hearing this. He exchanged a look with Daksh.
"Last night.... Was it your first dose?...Are you bleeding right now, yes or no?"
"No," she replied. Daksh looked at Ayaan, who was silent for a moment.
"Let's do a blood test and check your heartbeat. If I don't do it, it won't feel like a real checkup," he said, showing the stethoscope with a smile.
"I don't want a blood test," she said, trying to hide her hand.
"Just a few minutes, love. You'll be done soon," Daksh said, holding her hand tightly and pushing her face in his chest.
Ayaan quickly took her blood and placed it in his bag.
"Look, you didn't even hiss once," Daksh said, removing his hand from her face.
"But it hurt," she murmured.
"Okay, last thing let me hear your heartbeat," he said, placing the stethoscope on her chest.
"I'm leaving now. I'll take it to the hospital," Ayaan said, leaving the room, followed by Daksh.
"She's pregnant, right?" Daksh asked Ayaan, who stayed silent for several minutes before answering.
"I don't know. Maybe. She only took one pill. she should've taken three or four since it's been a week after. You told me she felt weak just the day after you both were intimate," Ayaan explained.
"But Ayaan... Damn you know we just did it once like I'm not telling you that we didn't do anything at all but on our wedding night only we did what it talk a girl to get pregnant and only for once.... How can I get her pregnant by just one time...."
"You have your answer. Let's wait for the results. We can't be sure yet," Ayaan replied, leaving Daksh standing there.
