Adam

"What were you thinking?" I growl at my sister. The fact that she had gone running with my mate made me angry. And it made my wolf furious. How was I supposed to protect her if she was just hopping around the forest, unprotected? Sure she could probably kill a single wolf without blinking, but what if an army of rogues attacked her? Or worse, another pack? Then what? She was mine. That means she was supposed to stay with me.
"She told me you had set her free!" She hissed. We were in my office, so no one was supposed to be able to hear us. But you never know around here, so we kept it as silent as possible. We could just mind link, but I prefer telling people off verbally. It sounded better.
"I did," I reply. "But that does not mean you go running around with her! What if she runs away? We don't even know her name! It was hard enough to track her once, I don't want to have to go to the extra trouble of doing it again."
"Of course you don't know her name you idiot." She snapped. "She doesn't fucking trust you. Get it through your thick skull. How can you expect her to when you don't trust her, even after her actions. If she wanted to run, she would have by now."
"Maybe she was too scared that I would find her, so she chose to try run from you instead, if she would have gotten the chance. Do you know how fast she is?"
"Or maybe, just maybe, she is actually falling for you?" Robin asked. I stared at her, quite speechless. I liked the idea, a lot. Sure a ton of girls fell for me, I am the Alpha, but for some reason I hadn't thought of what Robin had just suggested.
"I'm as surprised as you are," she continued. "As to how she manages to put up with your arrogant behavior, I will never know. But what I do know is that if you don't start acting normal and like a real mate, you will lose her. And although I'm sure Sydney will be glad to help you when your mate is not around, I doubt she's the one you would want."
"Don't bring Sydney into this," I said rather defensively. "She hasn't done anything wrong."
"Oh please, you know I don't like her." Robin said while rolling her eyes. "And you also know that I always knew you two weren't mates."
"Well aren't you smart?" I mocked.
"What I don't know is why you did it. So amuse me."
"The less you know the better," I huffed at her. The last thing I wanted was for her to find out why I was so close to Sydney.
"Adam-"
"Enough!" I growled, causing her to flinch. "Now where were we? Right, you were talking about my mate."
"Just don't screw this up. Don't screw her up. She likes you Adam."
"And how would you know that? Are you some kind of love doctor?"
"It doesn't take a genius to realize the way her cheeks redden when she speaks about you. Or the way she perks up when you become the topic of discussion. Or the way she-"
"Okay, okay. I get it." I interrupted. I hated when she lectured me. "I have some last minute things to fix for tomorrow. Can you make sure she sleeps okay?" I asked earning a nod as Robin started leave. "Thank you." I said and she turned around and winked at me.
"Anytime," she said as she opened the door to leave. I couldn't help but notice that she wavered a bit before walking out of my office, but she was gone before I could ask any questions.

"You heard everything, didn't you?" Robin asked after quickly closing Adam's office door behind her when she realized I had been standing behind the door. I had followed them to make sure he didn't hurt her. And maybe I was a little curious. I nodded in response. "How?" She asked.
