TW- talk of traumatic events
"Hey Park,"
"Ay dios, hey Robby,"
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you,"
"It's alright," I say, relaxing and kissing him on the cheek. "What are you doing here? I thought you were staying with your mom."
"You and I are getting your apartment back, that's what I'm here for," Robby says confidently. I freeze in shock.
"¿Qué- what- we can't-"
"You've been living from house to house for at least a week now, all while your own apartment is literally right up there. It's your house, and your dad doesn't have any right to it. Be the one to kick him out. You can't keep living like this, Park..." he says. I look down at the ground, tears forming in my eyes. I know he's right... and I want nothing more to sleep in my own comfortable bed, and use my own kitchen and my own bathroom, and take care of my bonsai tree and just... have my safe space back...
"I don't have work today... and he's not home right now... he left five minutes ago," I say. Robby grins.
"Then let's go," he says, gently taking my hand in his. Together, we walk up to my apartment, my hands shaking more and more with every step up the stairs I take. I haven't been back since I stormed out after Abuelita left me with my dad... as I pull my keys out of my pocket and put them in the keyhole, I hesitate before unlocking and opening the door. My hands shake violently. I don't know if I could physically turn the key, even if I wasn't frozen with fear.
"Park-?"
"I can't do it," I say, shaking my head as I back away from the door, "I checked the security cameras and he left like I said he did, and it didn't notify me saying he went back, but what if- I just- I can't- I-"
"It's okay, I'm right here. If he's in there and tries anything funny, we could take him. I've got your back no matter what," Robby says. I shake my head again, starting to feel a little out of it.
"I can't fight as well like this. And- and I can't let you get hurt; I won't let him hurt you," I say. I won't let my dad hurt Robby. It's out of the question.
"I have an idea. Wait here, I'll be right back," he says, kissing my forehead before bouncing off without explaining what he plans on doing. Okay..? Body still aching from injuries and sleeping on the couch, I sit down against the wall, keeping a close watch on the entrance to the stairs and the door to my apartment. What could Robby possibly be doing that could help right now?
"Okay, Robby, what's going on-" someone other than Robby says, pausing, "Reyes?"
"Mr Lawrence?" I ask as I stand up, confused. He went to get his dad..?
"Parker hasn't been staying in her apartment because her piece of shit dad has been staying here. He's not in there right now, but we could just use... backup," Robby explains. So he went and got an adult that could most certainly take my dad in a fight? Huh... Mr Lawrence looks from Robby, then over to me.
