"I hope Carmen's okay," Robby says. He, Sam, and I sit at a table together, sipping on water. "Did you talk to Miguel before he left?"
"For like, thirty seconds," Sam says, "we were so excited about exploring Barcelona together. And now... how are you two feeling?"
I feel bad that Miguel didn't get to talk to Sam for very long...
"Exhausted," I respond, "worried about Ms Diaz... I hope everyone back home is okay."
I wish Miguel and Sam could explore like she wants to. I haven't forgotten about my Italy plan... I just need to work up the courage to call my Nonno and Nonna... if they were willing to fly me to Italy from the United States, maybe they'll be willing to fly me there from Spain...
"Me too," Sam agrees, "Robby?"
"Not great," he responds, "thinking about adding some rum to this Coke."
I look over at him sharply. What did he just say?
"Yeah right," Sam chuckles.
"You don't drink," I say, bewildered that he would even say something like that. He's always been the one person I could trust at parties to not drink. I don't necessarily mind that my friends do, but that is notoriously when things go to shit.
"Might be a good time to start," he says, "I've just been screwing everything up ever since the aquarium. How is he not affecting you, Park? Don't you just want to send a punch flying at his face?"
I can't believe he's entertaining the idea of drinking when he and his family all have a history of substance abuse. All this over some asshole? Truly, Kwon isn't much worse than Eli was over that first summer after the All Valley when he was still at Cobra Kai. I know Robby cares, and I love that he cares, but it's hurting all of us.
"Of course I do," I say, "but I'm here to fight in the Sekai Taikai, and hopefully, explore Barcelona. Kwon doesn't have any place in that outside the mat. He's using me to get to you."
"We can't keep letting Cobra Kai get in our heads like this," Sam says, "Tory chose the other side, and Kwon is just an asshole. We've dealt with those before."
She's right. Her attention is drawn by something over Robby and I's shoulders. What- oh. Speak of el diablo and he shall appear...
"I'm gonna get some air..." Sam says, getting up and walking out. We should all probably do that... but I could use a fun little mocktail while we're here. And I want to try and talk to Tory... to be honest, I've barely noticed her all day. I feel kinda bad...
"I'll be right back," I say to Robby, then get up and cross over to where Tory stands at the bar. I hear faint murmurs of 'La Escaladora' as I walk, but I try not to let my reaction show on my face. I don't want to seem cocky.
"Hey..." she says. She doesn't seem upset that I'm over here, which is a good start.
