Last night after another uncontrolled bout of Legilimency, the throbbing in my head moved to behind my eyes causing my vision to blur at the sides. I tried to blink away the fog but it wouldn't subside. This time the experience was different. I wasn't laying next to Sebastian in bed and the memory contained parts that he wasn't present for. This meant that it had to be Willow or Ominis' mind that I infiltrated by accident, both of which were many kilometers away.
These Legilimency dreams were extremely draining, sucking any energy I would have had from a good night's sleep and then some. I looked in the mirror, my eyes were practically hollow and deep dark purple circles formed underneath. My normally tanned skin was a cool pale shade. My lips were chapped, dried of all moisture as if I was gasping for air in my sleep. I had to tell Sebastian about these dreams soon, before he noticed the physical toll they were taking on me, if he would even hear me out.
I didn't think I'd see Sebastian until tonight when he came back so I took advantage of the free time to grade some assignments for my classes. I remembered messy pile of parchment on my desk and got ready quickly, heading out the door.
"Professor Eversley, what a pleasure." A sultry but annoying voice said from behind me as I was locking the doorknob with my keys.
"Mr. Reyes, what do I owe this pleasure?" I said sarcastically, walking briskly past him knowing he'd trail behind regardless.
"Can't we be on a first name basis, Gianna?" Issac caught up with me, lowering his eyes and running a hand through his slick black hair. Hearing my name on his lips made me shudder with disgust.
"It's Professor Eversley to you." I replied sternly, shooting him a look of disapproval and picking up my pace to the Defense Against the Dark Arts tower. "Don't you have anything better to do than bother me on a Sunday morning?"
"I'm a prefect," he pointed to the shiny silver badge pinned proudly to his robes, "so I'm actually working right now."
I rolled my eyes, "then get back to work, I've got work to do of my own." I had lost the ability to be pleasant, he was a thorn in my side that kept scratching and digging deeper with each encounter.
"Well, when you decide you want to have a little fun, send me an owl." Issac offered, putting his hand on my arm. He was getting awfully bold.
I shot away, stopping in my tracks. "Don't you touch me. I am your Professor and you are a student."
"I like it that way." Not rattled by my sharp tone, he winked before backing away and heading in the opposite direction, laughing to himself.
I shuddered again, feeling violated from his words and advances. I was repulsed by the idea that I was his fetish, his fantasy.
I couldn't reach my office at the back of my classroom fast enough, slamming the door shut behind me. I braced myself on the desk, sighing deeply a few times. The parchment pile waiting for me to grade was much taller than I remembered and I groaned at the height.
The day crawled as I read terrible assignment after terrible assignment, the students' writing skills clearly rusty from the summer holiday. It wasn't until the sun was sending long shadows across my office did I notice how late it had become.
I hoped to catch Professor Onai back from visiting her daughter, Natty, before the end of the day. She rarely ate meals in the Great Hall as she loved to cook special Ugandan cuisines to remind her of home. The Divination classroom always had a warm spicy smell to it whenever she decided to whip up her famous stews. I set off to the tower, up the winding spiral stairs. I was greeted with that familiar scent as it wafted in and out of my nose, instantly making my stomach growl.
