Hazel's P.O.V.
"Whatever the situation was, Lily, how could you agree to kill your own brother?" I yelled at Lily, her tear-stained face looking down in shame. My anger had consumed me, but as her sobs filled the room, guilt began to weigh heavily on my heart. "Please, Hazel, don't shout," she pleaded, lifting her gaze to meet mine. "I know I made a terrible mistake, but please, let me explain," she said, her voice trembling with remorse. I sighed, realizing that I needed to give her a chance to tell her side of the story. "Okay, go on," I said, softening my tone, and sat down on my bed, prepared to listen.
"Hazel, everything I'm about to tell you is the painful truth," Lily began, her voice laden with sorrow. "When we first arrived at that new school, I never expected to fall so deeply in love with Kai. It was like a whirlwind romance, love at first sight. We couldn't resist the pull we felt towards each other, and soon, we began secretly dating.I wanted to be immortal. Kai is immortal and he can give it to one person." As she spoke, I could sense the raw emotions overwhelming her, her voice choked with suppressed tears.
"But then, Aiden found out about us," Lily continued, her voice trembling with regret. "I tried to explain to him that Kai was the one for me, that our love was real. But Aiden, blinded by his own fears and prejudices, refused to listen. He relentlessly insisted that Kai wasn't good for me, that he would bring nothing but pain and heartache into my life."
Lily paused, her eyes filling with anguish, before mustering the strength to continue. "In a moment of desperation, Kai and I made a terrible decision. We decided to kidnap Aiden, hoping that it would make him see the truth, make him understand the depth of our love. But our plans went horribly wrong. Aiden managed to escape, and in our desperation, we tried again, failing once more."
Her voice quivered, and her tears flowed freely. "In a moment of sheer desperation and panic, I made the most horrifying choice. I framed Aiden, manipulating the evidence to make it appear as if he were capable of murder. I knew that if you believed he was responsible, you would kill him.
"Lily," I said, my voice trembling with a mix of anger and sadness. "Just because of that selfish Kai, you've destroyed our friendship. Aiden is gone now, and nothing we do can bring him back." I struggled with conflicting emotions, torn between wanting to forgive Lily and the lingering pain of betrayal. "I can't forgive you just yet. I'm sorry," I said, my voice filled with a heaviness that mirrored the weight in my heart.
Lily, tears streaming down her face, silently nodded and left my room, her sobs echoing through the hallway. I lay on my bed, feeling a profound emptiness engulf me. The realization of what I had done sank in, and the weight of my actions pressed heavily on my conscience. Thoughts swirled in my mind, each one piercing my soul with regret. "I made a grave mistake by trusting Lily," I thought bitterly. "I took Aiden's life for reasons that were unfounded.
As I lay on my bed, tormented by guilt and regret, a sudden realization pierced through the fog of my thoughts. A question emerged, cutting through the chaos within my mind, and I found myself uttering the words aloud, almost involuntarily, "Then who really did the murders?"
