And how the blood rushed into my cheeks, so scarlet, it was°
Charles and Diana were now eating in a restaurant in the city center. The roads were busy, as expected, and the food was delicious.
"How was your first day at the paddock?" Charles asked.
"It was a bit weird. I'm not used to it."
"I know, and I totally understand if you don't want to come those days with me. The media can get out of hand and I-" He was explaining, but Diana interrupted him.
"Charles, calm down. I do want to be there with you and support you. I can deal with that. It is worth it." She said.
Charles smiled and held her hands.
"Diana, I got something for you," He said as he got that small jewelry box out of his pocket. The same that Diana had found yesterday. He opened the box and showed her the necklace. Diana was not willing to reveal that she knew about that.
"Charles, there was really no need to -" she said, but Charles stood up with the necklace in his hands.
"Let me help you with that." He said, and the necklace was now hanging from her neck.
"It's so pretty," Diana said.
"I'm glad you liked it." He said and smiled.
"I feel so bad right now," she said, looking down
"Pour quoi ma chérie?" He asked.
"Cause you spent so much money and got me a gift, but I haven't done anything like that." She asked.
"No, don't think of it that way. I just wanted to get something for you to remind you of me. Something more personal. And when I saw this I knew that it would be perfect for you." He explained.
It was late when they came back to their hotel. They had decided to drive around the city and do some shopping after having lunch. But they managed to have dinner at the same restaurant since they had spent so much time in the town.
Charles just collapsed on the couch after throwing the shopping bags on the floor while Diana, who was equally tired, headed to the bedroom and changed.
"What a day." She said, in her home wear now.
"Tomorrow, I have two free practice sessions. Do you want to come?"
"Of course I will!"
"Great. Just to let you know, we are going to spend the whole day there."
"Told you I'm here to support you. I'm not gonna leave you alone."
The next day, they woke up early in the morning. They got ready and went to the paddock. When they arrived, it was already ten o clock.
After Charles changed into his racing suit, they went to the Ferrari garage.
Diana was amazed by the place. For the first time ever, she actually felt Formula 1. She realized how much she had missed the sport. Charles car was in the center in the garage, and the mechanics were doing some last-minute work. Fred, who was already there, showed Diana around.
There were screens with statistics all over the place. Someone handed Diana the headphones she had noticed that some people were wearing.
"They are connected with the official Formula 1 live stream. You'll be able to watch the practice and everything that way. There is always one huge screen for this purpose." Fred said.
Meanwhile, Charles was already in the car. The first session was about to begin, so Diana got close to the car.
"You'll rock them. Be careful, " she said and blew him a kiss.
Charles smiled, but because of his helmet, it wasn't visible. Minutes later, he was in his out lap. The Astons were not out yet, and the Mercedes got out a lap afterward.
Charles first time was not bad but not good, too. Fred assured Diana that this is a form of getting the car dead and that many drivers use this method. The red bulls were now on their out lap, and so were the Astons.
There were thirty minutes left, and the things were not looking good. Red-bull's pace was out of this world, while the Ferraris were good, but not as good as them. It is true that they had a pretty tought start and they wanted to improve.
"We should not rush. We still have time, " Fred said when he realized that Diana was worried.
He was not wrong. In the last ten minutes, both drivers were setting the fastest sector after the fastest sector. Especially Charles was flying around the circuit, and it was clear that something had changed. The session ended and the Ferraris were on the first two positions.
When Charles got out of the car, after the end of practice one, he didn't have the time to talk to Diana. He had to leave with his trainer immediately. Diana left the garage for a bit and went to the Café. She desperately needed a coffee. She got one and started eating towards the garage again when she bumped into a driver.
"Oh God, did I spill your coffee?" He asked.
"Oh no, it's fine," she answered.
"Excuse me being nosey. Are you Diana? Charles' girlfriend?" The man asked.
"Yes, that's me!"
"We did not have the chance to meet earlier. I'm George Russell."
"Nice to meet you, George!"
"Nice to meet you too. I'll see you around. I'm very sorry about that accident." He said and left in a hurry.
Dianas managed to arrive at the garage and sat again next to Fred. The time passed, and if it was already time for Charles to get in the car again. He rushed in the garage, and before doing anything else, he spotted Diana. He went closer and kissed her. That was something that didn't go unnoticed by the cameraman there.
"I needed that," he said and proceeded to put on his helmet before getting in the car.
The second practice session was pretty much the same. Diana was relieved when she saw Charles' car coming into the garage. She couldn't wait any longer.
