°You are the best thing that's ever been mine°
Diana woke up the next day, still in her dress, with a heavy headache and very much lost.
"How much did I drink for God's sake..." she said to herself.
She looked around and didn't see Charles. In fact, he was nowhere to be found. She searched the whole place but nothing. She went into the bathroom and tried to look more like a human by changing clohes. Then she made some coffee and laid on the sofa. Once she took the first sip of her coffee, she started remembering. The party, the dance, and then the fight. Him leaving was the most heartbreaking thing. He clearly said not to call him, but he didn't say anything about texting. So that's what she did. She took her phone and texted him
"Can you please come to talk?"
She then left her phone on the coffee table, opened in their chat, and waited. Some minutes later, the word "read" was written below the text. But no answer. She swore and stood up. She spent some time walking up and down in the aisle, but still no answer. She laid on the sofa again and stared at the ceiling. Just then, the bell rang. She ran and immediately opened the door. She was happy to see him there.
"I'm sorry," They both said.
"No, it's not your fault." They said together again.
They started at each other for a second, and Diana fell into his arms.
"I shouldn't have drank nor danced with George. You were so right." She said, and she was clearly sobbing.
"I shouldn't have fought with you nor leave you all alone like that. You were not in the best state, and it was just wrong." He apologized as well.
"I didn't mean anything that, I said. Not a single word!" She tried to convince him.
"Me, neither." He said and kissed her forehead.
"Promise me that we won't fight again. I don't like it at all. It's awful." She cried out.
"I won't let that happen, mark my words." He assured her. "We have to get ready. Don't forget that we are going back to Monaco and our parents are going to be there." He added.
Diana nodded, and they both started parking their stuff. Those hours went by pretry quickly. Luckily, this flight was private, and there wasn't so much pressure. They were sitting next to each other when the plane took off.
"Have you informed both your parents and your brother for tomorrow?" Charles asked.
"Yes They have already booked a hotel, and they're leaving tonight, at 10 pm."
"Great. My family is informed as well. My mother insisted on eating together at my family's home and not mine. She isn't worng, it's definitely bigger."
"She is so sweet for that." Diana commented.
"You really remind me of her sometimes. When you treat me like I'm a baby, especially." He said and chuckled.
"Because you are! You need someone to take care of yourself. If not, then you'll probably skip a meal or stay awake when you clearly need sleep!"
"You are so cute when you are worried." He said and kissed her.
"That doesn't change the fact that you are a baby." She said, laughing.
"I want to apologize in advance for everything that my mother might say. She is very judging and a bit mean sometimes." Diana said, clearly in a concerning tone.
"She is definitely going to like me," Charles assured her.
"I hope so too. She is not very fond of the fast-paced way of us, so she is not going to accept it easily."
"You've told me this three times. I think I have got the idea." He said and chuckled.
"I don't understand how you can be so calm about it! I mean, I know that your mum isn't like mine but I'm still nervous about meeting her. I want to make a good first impression. You, on the other hand, are in a much worse state since my mother is a witch, but you are not concerned at all!"
"Firstly, my mother already likes you very much."
"She hasn't met me Charles's!" Diana insisted.
"She has heard so many things from me that she is already sure about you." He said, and Diana's expression changed completely. A nice smile appeared on her face, and it was clear that she felt flattered and loved.
"Everything okay?" Charles asked.
"Perfect. Everything is perfect." She said and smiled dearly.
The plane landed after a very calm flight, and before they knew it, they were entering Charles' apartment. They threw their Baggs on the floor and stretched.
"How do you travel so much without getting so tired." Diana complained.
"Oh, I don't, huh?" Charles answered ironically.
"Thankfully, the plane food was good. I would have fainted if I hadn't eaten there."
"Totally! Wanna see a movie?"
"That was very out of the blue, but I won't decline the offer."
"Harry Potter?"
"Always," Diana replied, trying to mimic Snape's tone.
Charles chose one of the movies and put it on. Then he sat next to her and wrapped her in his arms. They both loved Harry Potter, so time was passing quickly.
"Oh, I love that scene it's Hermione and Ron's first kiss!" Diana exclaimed and felt him hugging her tightly.
"Don't tell me that you got emotional over a movie you've seen a million times before!"
"No, it's not about the movie. I just realized that tomorrow is our last day together before you leave. I haven't got enough of you yet."
"I'll miss you too but I can't give up on my job."
"No I would never ever want that either. However the time is very limited. Best case scenario, I'll see you around the end of July, at the British grand prix."
"I am definitely not going to miss that. But still, do not worry about it. We will figure something out." She said and kissed him.
"You are the best thing that's ever been mine".
"Is that a Taylor Swift reference?" She asked and her eyes sparkled.
"Most definitely!"
