°Good thing my daddy made me get a boating license when I was fifteen
And I've cleaned enough houses to know how to cover up a scene
Good thing Este's sister's gonna swear she was with me
Good thing his mistress took out a big life insurance policy
They think she did it, but they just can't prove it
She thinks I did it, but she just can't prove it
No, no body, no crime
I wasn't letting up until the day he died°

Charles and Diana were eating peacfully in front of the TV. The two pasta plates were almost empty when Diana spoke.

"I can't believe that after everything that happened we cooked and now we are watching a comedy." She commented, and Charles laughed. Just then, Diana's phone rang. She went for it immediately and pressed the green circle.

"Hello?" She said.

"Good evening, Miss Stanford. I hope I'm not interrupting something important. This is Dean Bale." The man said in a cold tone, and Diana's expression changed instantly.

"Oh yes, we work at the same prosecutor's office. Is everything okay?" She said, trying to play it cool.

"Actually, there are some changes in a case that you have been working on for some days. The murder of a young lady."

"You mean Miranda Whale? The girl was murdered two weeks ago? What about it?" She asked, full of confusion.

Charles was paying attention to the phone call even though he had no idea when it came to crime stuff.

"Our boss, Mr. Willson insisted on working together for this case. That's where I got your phone number from."

"Did Mr.Willson inform you about the reason why we have to cooperate?"

"He said that something is off about this case and two people are better than one in those circumstances."

"Then we are officially working together, Mr. Bale."

"May I ask, when are you planning on returning to London? This case really needs more than one person. That's what I realized when I took a loot at the case file at least."

"I'll be in town tomorrow morning."

"Shall we eat out in the evening to get to know each other and talk about the case? If that's fine to you, of course."

"I see no problem with that. I'll text you tomorrow about the place and the hour."

"Great. Have a nice day."

"You too." She said, and the phone call ended.

"Who was this man?" Charles asked in a concerning but not jealous tone.

"He is a prosecutor, too. I've seen him around the halls but never really spoke to him. He is always so cold. They say that he is a professional thought, a very experienced one. I'll have to cooperate with him for that case I told you about."

"Is that good?" Charles asked.

"As far as the case is considered, this just means that the case is more complicated. However, I have never ever worked with someone else on a case before, and my first time being with him is a bit weird."

"Why is it weird?"

"Because many prosecutors would like to work with him, but he doesn't do that a lot. It is a bit strange." She answered.

"So why did he agree on working with you?"

"I have no idea. I do have a good reputation, especially for my age, but would that be a reason?"

"You will find out tomorrow." Charles said. "Now let's get ready. We have to be there in about two hours." He added.

Diana spended a couple of hours getting ready for dinner that night. Apart from her usual perfectionism, she was extra careful today, not only because she was going to meet Charles' family but mainly because her parents were going to be there as well. Thankfully, her brother was definitely going to keep everything in order. She had warned him multiple times, and he was ready for any occasion. Diana chose to wear a long satin dress in the same color as the necklace that Charles gave ger. Of course, she wanted them to match. She did some light makeup and left her hair in its natural state, partly because she wanted to present her natural self, and partly because her mother hated her changing anything on herself. It was a way to avoid conflicts whatsoever. Finally, she sprayed herself with some perfume, the classic Channel no5, and then proceeded to put on her favorite white heals.

Charles on the other hand was trying to play it cool, but deep inside, he was a bit anxious, mainly because of the description of Diana's mother that Diana herself had given him. That's why he decided to wear some formal pieces of clothing like a white shirt and a beige costume. It was simple, minimal, and elegant at the same time. He put on some jewelry like a bunch of rings, braceand a couple of necklaces. After spending twenty minutes fixing his hair, he sprayed himself with his favorite Dior Sauvage and wore a pair of black shoes.

They both grabbed some last time things before leaving, like Diana's small black bag and left the house. They got into Charles car and they were pretty silent.

"Stressed?" He asked after a while.

"Definitely. You?" She said.

"A lot." He answered, and they both laughed nervously. "Too bad we've just arrived." He added as he parked.

They got out of the car and walked towards the entrance. From what Diana had seen, her parents were not there yet since there wasn't another car nearby. Charles, who was more relaxed now, rang the doorbell.
