Chandler Xu sometimes didn't know where she belonged in this world. There were times in her life where she felt practically invisible, almost like a shadow that walked among the moving crowd. She felt like she was just merely existing, not having a meaningful purpose to follow her around through her merely average life.
The teen girl didn't believe that she was special or one of a kind, contrary to other people's beliefs about her. Everyone believed that her most life must be exciting because it was practically defined by wealth and privilege that she had been so graciously gifted. And she wasn't going to deny those gifts but she still didn't feel like she lived up to all of those extravagant expectations they been forcibly bestowed on her.
Ever since the day she had entered this world, her parents had meticulously planned out every aspect of her life. They wanted to mold her into becoming the perfect daughter they had always wanted to have. She had been practically stripped of her autonomy, destined to pursue a future that wasn't entirely hers. They dictated everything in her life and she just merely agreed, not wanting to make a scene but in the process, she had lost herself.
Chandler was still struggling to find herself in this unknown world, not knowing exactly how to properly navigate the process or how to find what truly defined who she was. She still believed that she didn't belonged anywhere, no matter how hard she was trying to break free from the constraints that were controlling every aspect of her life.
She didn't want to become the person that she expected to be. She wanted to be different. She wanted to find the person that had been hiding underneath all of those suffocating layers of conformity. It may seem like such a huge controversy but she just wanted to be herself.
And her first step towards finding independence came in an unlikely form . . . it had been the flyer from Cobra Kai. One look at the faded ink words and she had felt something spark inside of her, almost like a match being struck to a candle box, She believed that this was practically a sign from the universe, coaxing her to explore the world that laid outside of her comfort zone.
That flyer may not seem like a big deal but it was enough to convince the teen girl that she should attempt to reclaim the freedom that had been forcibly stolen from her.
And that's what led to Chandler Xu making one of the most controversial decisions of her entire life . . . she had decided to sign herself up for a karate class at Cobra Kai. She knew it may not be that adventurous but it was enough to satisfy her desires.
