Riley Lawrence often wished that she didn't have to suffer from anxiety but it had become so intertwined with her life that she didn't know if she'd ever overcome it. Those uncomfortable thoughts and its accompanying feelings never dared to leave her alone, practically always living in the back of her mind at all times. Even when she so desperately wanted to dissociate from the world around her, they would continue to linger and pull her back in.

The girl has never experienced a single moment of peace in the fifteen years that she has been alive. She still remembers being a small child and almost having a panic attack every time she would be called upon by the teacher, too terrified to open her mouth and speak in front of the class. Many believed that she would eventually get over this 'shy phase' and grow into herself but these thoughts only continued manifest as she grew older.

Anxiety had taken complete control of her life, practically pushing her out of the driver's seat. She couldn't do anything without that uncomfortable feeling looming over her shoulder and watching her every move. For so long she tried to suppress them, pretending that they didn't exist but she could only take so much before she hit her breaking point and was forced to endure the intense wave coming for her.

Riley was barely fourteen years old and she felt like her life was collapsing at the seams. All of those suppressed feelings had practically exploded and she didn't understand how to deal with them. She felt like she was drowning in a bottomless abyss as if every breath would be her last. She didn't know how to escape this hell that consumed every aspect of her life, going through each day with more fear and stress than the last.

It had reached a point where she was content with no longer being alive if it meant that her pain could end. She was too exhausted to fight to live and so desperately wanted to close her eyes to wish for an end to this pain that consumed her. She never received her wish though as her best friend had witnessed her mental distress and stepped in to save her before it was too late.

Riley resisted at first, pretending that everything was normal and that she didn't need help but in reality, her own friend could see right through her facade. She knew that the girl was on the verge of ending it all unless she had intervened. But she also knew that the girl was terrified, unsure about what to do, so she had to be eased into the idea of getting professional help, without piling any more stress onto her.

But Riley wasn't too keen on the idea of receiving professional help. She had suffered in silence for far too long that the thought of having to dump all of her unresolved trauma onto some random stranger that she only just met, was unsettling to her. She believed death would be easier to endure than a therapy session but after hours upon hours of convincing, she had forced herself to go because she did want to get better.
