He wakes up to banging on the door and realises he's on his floor. Oops. He tries to get up quickly with a sore back and opens the door. His mum glares.
"Brat, you deaf?"
Yep, the friend's gone. Now it's reality. How come if this is normal then she has to fake it to her friends? Is it a competition or some shit?
"What's the problem, old hag?"
Bakugo watched as his mother opened her mouth to shout but instead closed it. She replied with something he didn't believe she would say.
"Look, just thank you for not causing a ruckus in front of my friend."
The weird kindness shown made him lost for words.
"Yea... whatever."
It was almost as if there was peace between them. Until his dad arrived and then things went back to normal when she stomped back down. He shut the door and sat on his bed and stretched his arms. While doing so he noticed dried blood on his left hand. The blonde's face twists in confusion at how it happened. He didn't recall being injured. It looked like moderately deep spots so he rinsed it in the bathroom before packing his stuff to head back to UA, the sun was beginning to set and he would prefer to be there before it's too dark.
He heads down and puts the orange jacket on. Luck wasn't on his side as his soft father noticed him leaving and had to kiss him on the cheek. Gross.
After a simple enough journey Bakugo enters the common room and Midoriya walks over, pausing his conversation with Uraraka.
"Kacchan--."
"What dip shit?" Bakugo flips him off with his left hand...
Midoriya grabs it and inspects the cleaned marks, Bakugo stands uncomfortably feeling frozen in place. He should be shoving the little shit away but he was too in shock to do anything. There were a few others around so he would have to be tough.
Bakugo has enough of the mumbling from his childhood friend and he yanks his hand back.
"How did you get that? It looks o--."
"Oh my God, we're training to be heroes, do you think it matters? I just fell into a damn bush."
The other doesn't look convinced but Bakugo doesn't give a flying fuck, he scoffs and walks away to his dorm.
"What's wrong, Midoriya?" Shoto asks.
"I noticed spots on Kacchan's hand that looked like the ones given from a pen but deeper?"
"Are you sure?" His eyes widened.
"I'm certain..." He mumbles further but Todoroki is lost in thought.
----------
Bakugo savours Sunday by staying locked away in his room. Maybe he should have replied to the messages or repeated knocks but he rested and that's what matters. It's too late for regret.
Some classmates grew concerned with the blonde not being in form yet, especially when he's usually one of the first there. Even Aizawa had a quizzical look on his face.
"I'm worried about Bakubabe." Mina stretches on her desk.
"Me too." Kirishima sighs.
The bakusquad shared the concern but Sero tried to reassure them. "I'm sure he's just sick or something."
Midoriya was also worried, Todoroki could hear his mumbles in front about what may have happened to Bakugo. It was sweet how much he cared for his childhood friend. He has explained his childhood to Todoroki quite a few times, most of it revolving around Bakugo. His assumption was that the blonde has always been brash and arrogant and showed his care in other ways, such as how he cooked dinners for the class and assumed no one knew it was from him. But a part of Todoroki couldn't deny that it might all be a facade. His behaviour purposely brash as if it's a wall to protect him. But if that's correct why would he need to defend himself? He showed the same behaviour before Kimono so could it be related to further back? He wants to ask Midoriya as he would know but unfortunately there's no reason to pry. However, he knows for a fact Bakugo has been more distant and with the pen incident... which could be interpreted as a form of self harm. For now he would just have to observe and wait for a chance to intervene.
Hopefully, it's not as serious as Todoroki feels about it.
The blonde opens the door and looks away from the scorching eyes, taking a seat in his chair. He knew he was late.
"Bakugo." Aizawa called out.
He looked up and Aizawa made a good observation before continuing with his notices. Huh, he wasn't told off? Fucking weird.
It's funny how he woke up on time and even had his morning run but when he came back he couldn't get ready for school. His shoulders kept shaking and he'd drop anything he was holding and it was a whole mess. He waited some time as well to make sure he could get the stupid feeling under his grasp before joining class. It would be fucking annoying if it bothered him in class. Not because of what other extras think but because he'll get asked questions. Questions he doesn't know the answer to.
A hand pressed on his shoulder and he flinched. He turns around to see an apologetic Deku.
"What is it damn nerd?"
He whispers so gently that only they could hear, he wanted the blonde to be comfortable and to hopefully open up as it was clear something deeper was going on. "Are you okay?"
The blonde stares ahead. Silence was the only thing that answered the question. Usually Bakugo would yell or at least defend himself but nothing? Things were very concerning now, he never considered Kacchan's wellbeing at stake until this moment. He knows for some time there was problems with the blonde currently with his usual behaviour slipping but he seemed to recover or maybe it wasn't noticeable as much as it is now. He wished he could remember his behaviour from before. But all he can do now offer the support, for his friend's sake. Knowing the blonde, he is very tough on himself especially with how he treated Izuku as children but Izuku forgave him for it a while ago. He knows the blonde didn't know any better, especially from the glimpses he saw of the mother. He knows. He knows Kacchan cares and in fact even admires how strong he is with trying to keep it together but it's unhealthy. It's getting clearer by the second something is wrong.
Bakugo stared off into the window next to him, seeing the warm, golden glow of the morning that wrapped around the trees and birds that flew around. But he also saw a person next to the window, himself.
