"And the window sill looks really nice, right?"
Bakugo woke up, pressing his face into the pillow and groaning. It was too damn bright outside and he didn't want to think of yesterday. Each day became more regrettable, actions he regretted, memories he wished to lock away forever. To throw it under the rug.
"Shadows will scream that I'm alone."
At least, he had music to pass his sins away to. Well, until his father entered the room.
"Morning son, did you sleep okay?"
Bakugo grabbed his phone and muted it. He then stared up at his father with a frown, a silent sign that he wasn't in the mood for any shitty small talk. "Yeah, fine." His father walked over and sat next to him with a soft smile, Bakugo tried to push him off. "Go away, old man."
He chuckled and pat the explosive blonde on the head. Bakugo was a volcano about to erupt.
"Oh, fuck. School I'll be late I should--."
"Your mother called the school." Bakugo's eyes widened, he stared off at the wall. "As it's been... hard for you, they agreed to let you rest home today."
"What did they tell her?" Bakugo softly asked.
"They updated her on everything." Masaru knew that his son wasn't pleased, at the very least, but he tried to be as gentle as he could. "We didn't know you were struggling so much, I should have helped you more. I have let you down, I am sorry." He hung his head down in shame.
Bakugo didn't respond, he only stared ahead at the same section of the wall as previously. His eyes were transfixed on it.
"Your mother won't be up today, she is staying in bed."
"What..?" He gripped the ends of his hair.
"No, no she'll be okay! It was just a lot for her to take in emotionally. You know she loves you as much as I do, right?"
"I didn't want to bother either of you with this shit."
"Kats, we're your parents, it's our job. You didn't annoy us which was the problem. You shouldn't have to feel it all alone."
"I guess I'll stay in bed too."
"Not an option, kiddo. I'm having a day out in town and you're coming with me, no use sulking."
"But, but." Bakugo whined.
"Nope! You need some fun and we will have a great time, like when you were younger. I'll make breakfast for us so we aren't starving, come down when you're changed."
"Can I go like this?"
"Nope!" His father left the room.
Bakugo rolled his eyes as he shut the door, why did he always forget to close it? He really couldn't be fucked to go out today, probably looking like cat shit but the thought of going out with his dad didn't seem like the worst thing to do. Maybe he could convince his dad to buy him shit so he could save money, heh. When he decided on an outfit appropriate enough for leaving his house, he left his room and paused in front of his mother's room. The dark oak door was shut, silent. A word didn't want to pass through and he wasn't sure if that was appreciated or not. After thinking some more, he turned away and joined his father downstairs.
The smell of burnt bread covered the living room and passed Bakugo as he treaded down the stairs. It wasn't surprising. His father's cooking was... close to edible. But neither him or his mother had the desire to tell him the truth so they would applaud him and eat the food with forced smiles, which made his father beam.
Bakugo ate the black-patched toast, finding some parts to taste bitter however he didn't comment on it. After they finished eating, they both grabbed bags with any items they needed for travelling before going outside. Bakugo slided his hands into his pockets as he followed his father to the train station.
"Is mum going to be okay?" He asked, unable to let the thought control his mind any longer. He needed answers.
"She will be okay, she's a strong women. It was just a lot for her to hear."
"But how are you chill about this shit?"
"I have to be strong for all of us. It upset me too but showing you that would have made you feel worse so going out and relaxing together is better."
Bakugo nodded and kept walking, now joining Masaru's speed, side by side. They tapped in at the train station, Bakugo used his oyster card and it wasn't too long before a train passed for them to hop on to. Most seats were empty so it was easy to choose a seat. He took the opportunity and played music on his phone, earphones were already plugged in. They hopped on a few other trains to get to their destination, his father reminding him regularly to "mind the gap" and the blonde barking back on how he's aware of that shit.
The two had just made it to the central part of the city, where everything interesting was accessible by a road or two.
