The princes finish packing up.
"Alright. Let's start walking." Prince Chan speaks. The princes start following Chan, and I follow behind the group of rambunctious princes.
"Lee know! You're being quieter than usual." Han says. "Something wrong?" He questions. Lee Know shakes his head. "Yah, there's definitely something up," Han slings an arm around his older brother's shoulder.
"C'mon Lee know, what's wrong with you?" Han says while ruffling Lee knows hair.
"Oi, stop that before I feed you to a dragon or something!" Lee know shouts while pushing his brother off of him. Han laughs as he steadies himself. "Yeah whatever, hyung."
I smile while I watch the brothers interact. It makes me miss my siblings.
'I wonder if they're all still at Eldermora..'
"Noona!" Felix says, catching my attention.
(for context, Y/n is younger than Chan and Lee know, but older than the rest of the brothers.)
"Yes, Prince Felix?" I ask. Felix falls into step next to me. "About what we talked about in your quarters at the castle," I nod, remembering the conversation we had. "Do you think you could still teach me how to use a sword?"
I think for a second, it might be difficult to teach while having to walk. I hum. "The next time we stop for a break, I will start teaching you. Though it will take more than one lesson to be able to properly use the weapon," I say.
Felix's face lights up. "Ok! Thank you so much!" He smiles. I smile and nod. "Oh and another thing, back then you said you have connections in Eldermora, what did you mean by that?" Felix asks.
"Oh, I have family and friends there. Well at least, they might be there. I've lost communication with them so I'm not sure if they have left or not.." I say. Felix hums.
Up ahead of us I hear a voice shout over the chatter.
"Chan? How much longer until eldermora?" Hyunjin asks. Chan looks at the map that leads us to the city. "We're making good time so if we stay at this pace, it will be around a day and a half." Chan explains. "That's too longggg," Hyunjin whines.
"Then let's maybe do something to pass the time?" I.N. says. "Like we could- tell stories or something?" Felix chimes in. "Oh! I know one story I want to hear! Y/n! Could you tell the story of when you and your family went through the forest?" I'm caught by surprise, I forgot I mentioned that to Felix when we were talking in the kingdom.
"Wait really? You've been through the forest?!" Seungmin shouts in disbelief. I nod. "See, I knew I picked you for a good reason," Chan says while looking at his younger brother.
Seungmin glares back at him.
"Anyways yes, Y/n if you're comfortable, could you tell us?" Felix says.
I thing for a second. "Hm, I guess. But just a warning, some parts are- more disturbing," I warn. Felix nods excitedly, "that's fine!"
"I was 13 at the time, so it was around 11 years ago..."
—-flash back—-
My mother, father, my older brother, my two younger sisters, and I walk up to the entrance of the thick forest.
"Remember to keep your cloaks on kids. No matter what." My father warns while putting the hood of my cloak on my head.
The cloaks cover any heat signatures of the person wearing it, we were told that we would need it from a sorcerer. Us kids didn't know why at the time, but my older brother and parents did.
My older brother, who was 14 at the time, looks at my father worriedly. "Don't worry. We'll be ok.." my father replied quietly.
My father gently takes mine and my younger sisters hands in his, while my mother is holding my brothers hand and my youngest sister in her arm. We slowly start walking into the dark and mysterious woods.
Only a few yards in and it seems like all light is lost, turning around I couldn't even see the light of the way we entered. We were officially swallowed in the forests dark grasp.
The light breeze makes the trees sway, groan, and creek. A distant branch breaks and falls to the ground, alerting my family. My father's grip on mine and my sisters hands tighten. While my youngest sister, Hanni, hides her face In our mothers hair.
(Yes it's Hanni from new jeans. You'll find out the other siblings names soon enough- and yes they are also popular idols, I'm unoriginal and couldn't think of names-)
Despite everything we keep moving through the dense and dark forest.
Something rustles in the bushes in the distance and we all freeze for a second. I held my breath. After a minute and nothing coming out of the bush, my father decides it's safe to keep moving.
The wind keeps picking up in gusts, making the trees bend and sway. The dried leaves on the ground crunch with every step we take.
I look around.
'Nothing but trees, bushes and darkness.' I think to myself. While I'm looking around I see something out of the corner of my eye. I gasp and turn my head towards the movement I saw.
"What is it Y/n? What did you see?" My mother asks worriedly. "I-I-I don't know.. it was quick and I only got a glimpse of it." I say quietly. I watch as my mother looks at my father with a scared look in her eyes.
"F/n.. do you think-" my mother says. "I'm not sure. But we need to keep moving." My father says, he quickens the pace.
I look at my father curiously, but his eyes are set ahead and firm.
"Dad.. what was mom talking about?" I ask, my dads eyes don't stop scanning the forest ahead of us. "Nothing hon. Don't worry about it. As long as you have your necklace Y/n, we'll be ok." He answers. I nod and start looking around again.
My father had given me a necklace from an enchantress. I'm not entirely sure if it has an enchantment on it or not, so I consider it more of a good luck charm.
Hours pass and nothing has happened. Hanni has fell asleep and so has my other sister, Yeji. My mom is still holding Hanni while my father is holding Yeji. My older brother walks beside our mother but is no longer holding her hand.
I can't help but feel like we're being watched.
Once again I see something move in my peripheral. I shoot my head towards it again, this time, it's in-front of us.
A greenish grey fog slowly starts to form in the path ahead of us. My father stops in his tracks, causing everyone else to stop.
I watch in horror as a tall lanky figure forms itself in the fog, a disfigured face stares back at as.
"The- F/n Its the Deogen!" My mother whispers.
'Deogen?'
The figure in the fog quickly rushes towards us, one misty arm outstretched. My father pushes me behind him and shields Yeji, who is still asleep, with his body. Right before the ghostly figure reaches us, it evaporates. A child's laughter is all we could hear after it disappears.
"What was that.." my brother whispers, in shock.
"A Deogen, it's a very very evil spirit, F/n we need to move quicker." My mother says frantically.
My father grabs my hand and pulls me along, my short legs struggling to keep up. We keep this pace for what feels like days, but in reality it was only a few hours.
I start to notice cobwebs and bones lying around. "Dad? What are those.." Yeji, who is now awake, asks while pointing to the ground.
My father stops and looks around.
The forest is eerily quiet. It's like there's nothing living in it besides us.
... oh how wrong I was...
