.. oh how wrong I was...

My father starts speaking. "Kids, as we go through this, it is very important to keep your cloaks on. There are monsters here." He pauses and chooses his next words. "These- monsters- like to eat things, but they can't see us if we have the cloaks on."

"What kind of monsters?" Hanni asks. "Spiders darling, big huge spiders." Hanni shrieks and once again buries her face in our mother's neck.

"Jung... I'm scared.." Yeji says to our older brother. "Don't worry, we'll be ok. Be brave Yej." He says.

"Like y/n?" She asks. My brother Jungkook laughs, "Yes, be brave like Y/n."

I was always the bravest out of my siblings, my father called me the manly version of my brother. That would always cause my brother to groan in annoyance.

Yeji walks over to me and grabs my hand. I give her hand a squeeze and smile at her.

"Come on girls, we have to get going. We're almost out." Our father says. I nod and start walking.

We walk for a couple minutes until we see the monstrosities. Thermal Hunter spiders.

By the name, I bet you can guess what they do. They hunt anything with a heat signature, that's why the forest seems so dead.

They're huge, about the size of an infant child, and they hunt in packs of at least 100 others. The head of one of these things sells for around 200,000 shillings.

They have long, lanky, and hairy legs, and thousands of red eyes. They mainly have black scraggly hair- or fur. Whatever it is, it's mainly black with a brown stripe down the center of its body.

They have 4-6 inch fangs, which protrude from their mouths like daggers. Those also sell for a pretty penny.

Overall, they're terrible looking things.

I get chills when I see the giant spiders climbing and jumping around. Yeji clings to my arm. My mom puts her hand on Hanni's head to keep her from looking up and seeing the Thermal Hunters.

One scurries in front of our group, making us stop for a second. I look up and see a spider start lowering itself down from a string of its silk.

I look down and see that it's going to land directly on my father.

"Dad! Move!" I whisper yell. He looks up as the spider lands on his back.

"F/n. Stand. Completely. Still." My mother says. The spider turns it's head and moves its legs, like it's cleaning itself.

"Jung, I'm going to walk forward a bit, grab my sword and get this thing off of me." My father says, surprisingly calmly. My father walks forwards about 6 feet and then Jungkook takes my father's sword from his sheath.

"Carefully now. Flip it off of me, and then run back to your mother, ok?" My brother nods his head in understanding. Jungkook slowly puts the sword under the spider. "That's good, you're doing great, keep going." My father encourages.

In one swift motion my brother flips the spider off of our father and runs back to our mothers arms.

My sisters and mother are closing their eyes.

I let out a sigh before opening my own. My breathe gets caught in my throat. "D-Dad! Your hood!" I scream.

The spider must have pulled his hood off when it got flipped off of him.

My dad's hands shoot up to his head, where the hood of his cloak was once, but is no longer there.

"Put it on! Hurry!" I scream more. My dad looks up, seeing everything start to close in on him. "It's too late. I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." Tears stream from both of our eyes. "No! Please!" I scream, my throat feels like it's going to tear. "Dad, please!"
