Halloween 1981 would be a date remembered for years. The day that changed many lives.

The sound of a baby crying alarmed Sirius Black as he approached the Potter household. Noticing the front door was broken, he pulled out his wand as he stepped closer.

A cold chill ran up his spine as he entered the house, stepping towards the stairs he found himself staring at the lifeless body of James Potter.

"No no no no.." He whispered, his words turning into sobs as he fell down on his knees next to him. His best friend, his brother was dead. The sound of crying alerted him to the situation he was in. "Harry.." He whispered as he followed the sound.

The sight before him was one that would haunt him forever. Lily Evans and Annabelle Black laid lifeless in front on the crib where Harry was crying. He picked Harry up before kneeling next to his wife. "Belle?" He whispered, brushing her blonde hair from her face. "Come back to me please." He begged as Harry continued to scream and cry in his godfather's arms.

Sirius looked around the nursery for his daughter but she was nowhere to be found. He searched the upstairs of the house before noise from downstairs alerted him to another presence. Thinking it was his daughter he ran down the stairs, only to be greeted by Hagrid.

"Hagrid. Have you seen my daughter anywhere?" Sirius asked as he rocked Harry back and forth.

"I haven't I'm afraid but I'm here to take Harry."

"What do you mean take Harry? I'm his godfather."

"Dumbledore made arrangements for him to live with Lily's sister. I will be taking him to her."

"But I'm his godfather..." He looked down at the now sleeping boy in his arms.

"I'm sorry Sirius but I have to take him now." Hagrid said quietly, looking at the broken man before him.

Sirius said his goodbyes to Harry with a promise he would find him again before he handed him over to Hagrid. He sat on the stairs, his head buried in his hands as he replayed all his memories with James. He couldn't believe his best friend was dead. Reluctantly he made his way up the stairs towards the nursery, pushing the door open once more.

He knelt down beside Lily, pushing her ginger locks from her face. "Goodbye Lils. You make sure he looks after you up there."

He shut his eyes, working himself up for the hardest goodbye. He moved next to his wife tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear like he had done a million times before since they met. "Goodbye my darling, until we meet again. I love you." He placed a kiss on her head before going in search of his daughter, hoping she was in the company of Remus.

Just as Sirius was about to shut the door a small bang came from the cupboard behind the door. He crouched down, slowly opening the door to see his daughter wrapped in her blanket, stuffed wolf in hand with tears running down her face. "Little star" He whispered, gaining her attention.

She looked up from her teddy, her stormy grey eyes wide. "Daddy" She jumped into his waiting arms. "Mummy told me to hide."

"And you did that so well my darling" He smoothed down her wild hair, peppering her head with kisses. With one last look at his wife Sirius collected her toy and blanket and exited the room.

Seeing his daughter had quickly fallen asleep, Sirius made one last journey past James. "You look after your Lilyflower up there, and my girl, at least till I can be with you all again." And with that Sirius walked out the door and away from the Potter house for the last time.

Meanwhile a household in Devon was about to have an unexpected addition to their family. As the storm raged on and the loud claps of thunder woke the sleeping children, Molly and Arthur Weasley could only hope that nothing bad would come from it.

"Arthur...I have this bad feeling, everything feels different today." Molly said.

"I know Molly, I have the same feeling." The sounds of their children getting out of bed cut through the air. "We will all be okay." He kissed her cheek before going to try and get the children back to sleep.

A few hours later Molly was walking around the Burrow trying to get Ronald back to sleep whilst Arthur was making them tea. As Ronald settled the couple sat and listen to the storm when a harsh knock on the door sounded.

"It's late who is knocking at this time." Molly asked as she stood up to get her wand.

"I don't know Molly...well at least it's not You-Know-Who." Arthur replied as he made his way to the door.

"How can you be so sure." Molly shrieked.

Arthur looked over to Molly with a blank face " I don't think he normally knocks before he enters...unless he's come for some tea." He stopped talking as she sent him a glare. He opened the door and there stood Sirius Black soaking wet and covered in dirt. His daughter Cassiopeia was in his arms crying into her wolf teddy. The sight of the young girl crying shocked the couple, she had always been a calm child and never cried about anything.

"Molly, Arthur I need your help please." He stopped to adjust his daughter as he stepped into the house. "James and Lily are dead. The ministry is searching for me, they are claiming I gave their whereabouts. They think I killed them. HE WAS MY BEST FRIEND, my daughters godfather, I would never do that...I could never do that." His eyes filled with sadness and rage. "My darling Annabelle was there...she's gone and now if they get me Cassiopeia will have no one. Please can you take her, you can use my vault for her and yourself. Please help me."

Molly felt her heart break for the man and especially the little girl who was about to grow up without her parents. "Of course we'll take her Sirius but we won't ever take your money, this is what families do for each other plus what's another child to us."

"I will never be able to repay you for what you are about to do for her. I never expected to have a child and knowing I can't live a happy life with her and Annabelle, I'm glad she will get the chance to be happy with you." He looked down at his daughter. "Will you tell her about us? And tell her how much I love her, how much Annabelle loved her?"

"We will treat her as our own and she will grow up knowing all about you and Annabelle. We promise to always protect her." Molly said as she handed Ronald over to Arthur so she could take the young girl.

Sirius held her closely for the last time before taking a moment to look memorise everything about her. "I'm sorry I won't be there for you my darling and I'm sorry your mother can't be with you. You are so beautiful, I just know you are going to grow up to be such a brilliant witch. I promise you, I will come back. I love you my little star."

He handed her to Molly and quickly left. He turned into his Animagus form and ran towards the woods. His heart finally breaking as he realised all he had lost in a single night.
