I was in the middle of a street in the city, it was dark, silent and no one was there, except me. The lamps across the road was frightening, it bring shivers in my spine. There were cars, empty. But the weird thing is, I can hear those vintage songs coming from the stores around me. I started to walk around, to see if I can find someone, but there’s something wrong, Sombre st. I found myself on that place, again and again, right in the middle. It was dreadful and I felt, left alone in the middle of nowhere.
“Run” there’s a voice! I hurriedly do what she had said. But there’s no one around, just me, wearing my school uniform. The lamps around started to flicker, and those vintages songs stopped in that very moment. I was scared. I run, and I didn’t know what have gotten into me, then came a girl, with a long reddish wavy hair, running too. I started to yell “Hey!” but she didn’t look back, did she just ignore me? or maybe… she didn’t heard me at all. I run fast… probably the fastest as I could. But she was faster, still running like I am, I lift my hands trying to hold her but the moment I did, she disappeared. And suddenly, I woke up, panting. There’s sweat all over my body. A weird… different kind of dream.
The busy street was the total opposite of my dream, there are cars, people—lots of people walking around, going to work, going home and going to school. 6 am is the time allotted for the city to wake up. I look up to the sky, the sun was still hiding from the fluffy, gray clouds. But something puzzled me, I am standing at the very own Sombre st. The place of my dream, I step backwards. This is absurd. This is exactly like my dream was, but there were people around—that’s the difference. Stop over thinking things Jake! I said to myself. I continue walking to school, where the reality of life is.
Again. I’m in that place again. The Sombre st. with no one around, perhaps this may be is a dream. But, why am I running? I look forward, it’s her! She’s standing in the middle of the street. It’s too dark that I can’t see her face, but I did notice her hair, it was reddish and wavy, the same in my other dream. “Hey” I said, again she didn’t look or rather look around if she had heard my voice. She’s staring at something, I was curious so I tried to look too at what she is staring but when I was about to find out what is it, I wake up.
Another dream. I shake my head before going to the bathroom. This is entirely wrong. That dream confused me, and then I found myself staring at the post with name on it,Sombre st. And then a familiar hair caught my eye! A girl, with the long, wavy, reddish hair… finally! But wait, I suddenly stop, realizing that there’s something wrong about this but after a minute when I look up, she’s gone.
“Run” there’s a voice inside my head that keeps bugging me. “Run” again and again. F*ck it. I was walking, shaking my head, it’s too damn noisy! Confused. “Run!!” someone shouted but before I knew it, a car come crushing in. I closed my eyes but there were no pain, I’m still alive. And then I open my eyes, I’m in the middle of the street again, and there were people running, and the cars stopped, the lights flicker, it looks like I’m just the one staring, at the one bloody body of a girl, lying in front of me, the girl who saved me, the girl who pushed me away. There were visions of me and her. The dream, I saw my dream, I was running and she was staring at my bloody body, how come it became the opposite?
Hospital, room 306. That’s were I am, she needs to wake up to answer everything, I stare at her face… she’s lovely. And she got that long, wavy, reddish hair. She almost lose all her blood because of saving me, why? why?!
“Serene” I saw a old looking woman with gray hair, sobbing. She’s the girl’s mother I think. “You are?” She asked when she saw me in the room of her daughter. “Jake is the name, ma’am” She was shocked and then tears fell off her cheeks. “Sombre” she whispered. I clench my fists. What the hell is happening?! “What do you mean?” I asked, curious by how did she know that word. “You saved her, remember? The dream that you both were dreaming… is the connection” Connection?! I don’t get it. “But why did she saved me?” She just smiled. “The man in the Sombre st. was you… right?” I nod. “Remember the voice, she’s also her” she’s referring to Serene. I closed my eyes, and when I open it again…
I’m back at my room, panting, sweating all over my body. Weird. I took a bath and cleaned my room before I go to school. Again, for the nth time, I’m back at the one mysterious Sombre st. She’s… at the other corner was her, with her long wavy, reddish her, smiling at me, staring. I walk, even though the red lights was on, I need to talk to her, but before I reach her, I’m in the middle of the street, and when I look around, all the people have gone, except me and her.
The dream was reality, and the reality was a dream.. There were no dreams at all, I glance at my own self, lying at the coffin.
