“Don’t take this Personal Jake,” Wil said tugging at his gun. “But I’m not taking chances.” The two were circling each other like two lions about to pounce. The question remains, who will make the first move?
“I won’t, Wil. I mean I know I’m going to win, so I might as well not take it personally.” Jake said with his fingers twitching.
The two were in the middle of the cafeteria. The tables were pushed and the students and cafeteria ladies watched intently from beneath the tables.
“Last chance,This is going to get really messy real fast.” Will said, eyes still on Jake.
“I know.”
From across the cafeteria a group of girls started whispered excitedly as Polly, a girl with flaming curly red hair and pink baby cheeks, passed by trying to see what was going on.
“I wonder what this one is about this time?” says one.
She had specifically remembered having the weirdest fight with those two guys this morning.
“Polly, it’s like a rhetorical question. If you were going to pick between Jake and I who would it be?” Wil asked waving his hands.
“Obviously me, right?” Jake said jutting out his lower lip at her.
“None of you guys.” she said. “I see you both equally, what is this about anyway?”
“Nothing.” Wil said pulling Jake by the Jacket hood. “It’s obviously me, I can prove it.” he tried whispering.
WIl stopped walking and stared at Polly making her stop walking.
He leaned by a locker and continued to stare at her.
“What are you doing?” Polly asked uneasily.
Jack shook his head. “It’s not going to work.”
“Wait for it.” he said.
When nothing happened and Polly was already scratching the back of her arm he sighed exasperatedly. “I thought for sure my natural charm would get her but here goes nothing. Go on.” he said pushing her to move on ahead.
“Okay….I guess.” Polly kept walking as Jake gave Wil a look and mouthed “what are you doing?”
“Oh, let me take that for you.” Wil said, taking her books from her. “And your bag.”
“It’s a girl’s bag.” she said holding onto her bag.
“It looks heavy. Give me.” he said pulling her bag off of her arm.
“But you gotta admit it’s a pretty sweet gesture.” he said, pushing the door for her once they got to the Science lab.
“So that’s how we’re going to play it” Jack said. He cracked his knuckles and followed them into the empty classroom.
“Hey, Polly. Since we’re early I just wanted to ask if you could help me with the Periodic table.”
“Since when did you want to get ahead?” she asked. “Weren’t you guys going to do that project for Science week?”
“Yeah, considering the fact that term just started” WIl said grinning.
“But then it’s never too early to learn.” Polly said.
Jake grinned back at Wil.
Polly looked for her Periodic table in her bag. Jake bend over the table until only his face and arms were showing. “Thanks for teaching me.”
“No problem. So this here is the Periodic table. I don’t know how to begin really…” she trailed off.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. It’s just that from this angle I could see how long eye lashes you have. It’s really cute.”
“Oh really?” he laughed.
“Really?” Wil shook his head.
“They’ve always been cute. Guess you just didn’t notice because you were too busy being my friend.” Jack said.
“What?”
—-
Were those guys serious back then?
“Remember whoever gets drenched loses!” Jake said.
“Hey, what is this about this time?” Polly asked a friend who had been watching from near a hotdog stand.
“Oh, you don’t know? They said they were fighting for who gets to ask you out.”
“JACQUES! WIlLLIAM! YOU ARE SO GOING TO GET IT” she said rising from beneath the tables and running in between.
“Watch it!”
Someone screamed and that’s pretty much how Polly, drenched in Wil and Jake’s Science Project Slime, Jake and Wil got wound up in Detention.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
