Chapter 20

Anne was walking inside a shop called Grub and Go. She was walking with Hop Hop and stopped in front of a wooden box of food.

Hop Pop: "Oh! Pill Bugs are on sale!"

Anne: "Ooh? That reminds me, I'm gonna go grab some of that beatle jerky I like…can't believe I just said that."

Hop Pop: "Okay kiddo, see you outside." He shoved all of the Pill Bugs off the box into his cart.

Anne walked through the aisles looking at the shelves. "Hmm, where is that…a-ha! Score. And I got the last one."

She reached for the bag until a tongue stuck to it and took it off the shelf.

Anne: "Hey!" She saw Wally holding the bag.

Anne: "That was totally mine Wally!"

Wally: "Ya snooze ya loose scarecrow!" He laughed as he hopped away.

Anne: "Hey don't call me scarecrow! Oof!" A cart crashed into her side as she turned to see Mrs. Croaker with Archie in her cart.

Mrs. Croaker: "Hey! Move your big behind scarecrow! Croaker needs her cookies."

Anne walked away while crossing her arms. "My behind's not big, I'm big technically to its scale. Whoa!" She tripped over a wet floor sign in front of a frog with a mop.

Worker frog: "Hey! Didn't you see the sign scarecrow?"

Felicia: "Classic clumsy scarecrow."

The rest of the frogs in the store began to laugh at Anne as she picked herself up and walked away with an embarrassed blush.

She went outside and walked over to Bessie where the Plantars were waiting for her.

Sprig: "So, did you get the beatle jerky you…" He stopped his sentence when he noticed the saddened look on her face.

Sprig: "Hey what's wrong?"

Anne: "It's just…I've been here for over a month now and the townspeople still treat me crummy. I just wish they were a little nicer…"

Hop Pop: "Oh that's just the way these frogs are. Slow to accept and even slower to respect. It's actually our town motto." He motioned towards the entrance sign to Wartwood with a sign underneath saying the same thing he said.

Hop Pop: "You'll find a way to get their respect in your own weird way Anne and Y/N. If we find him or if he decides to show up. Anyways, who wants Pill Bug pancakes?"

Anne: "Ohh! My favorite!" She clapped her hands in excitement and stopped when she realized what she said.

Anne: "I've been here too long…"

They passed by a frog sculptor who was kissing his statue of Mayor Toadstool who was kissing a baby tadpole.

Hop Pop: "Well that statue's new."

Sprig: "And tasteless, woof!"

They all gasped as Bessie suddenly stopped. She chirped and started swinging back and forth so Anne got off to calm her.

Anne: "Whoa whoa girl easy, what's wrong?" She turned to where Bessie was looking to see a giant silhouette slowly getting closer as frogs in the street stopped to also look. Eventually it became big enough to reveal a giant spider pulling a cart with three toads riding on it.

As they rode into town as frogs were running away. Eventually the toads stopped and hopped off their cart. The red toad cracked his neck.

Red Toad: "Ah, nothing like cracking your neck after a long drive. Ain't that right?" He asked the two fellow toads behind them. Suddenly Mayor Toadstool and Toadie walked out of a building.
