It was the first day of second grade. Arlo and her twin brother Asher had just moved to the town earlier that summer and neither of them knew anyone yet. Asher and Arlo walked into the class holding each other's hand. All the other kids in the class seemed to already know each other which made the young girl even more nervous.

"Look there's two seats next to that kid." Asher smiled while pulling his sister to a round table near the back of the class.

Arlo and her brother pulled out chairs and sat on either side of the boy. He looked at the two kids who sat next to him and smiled before lifting his hand to cover the red scar that stretched from his upper lip to his nose.

"I'm Asher but you can call me Ash." The boy said with a smile. "And this is my little sister Arlo."

"I'm only younger by like 10 minutes." Arlo said rolling her eyes dramatically. "What's your name?"

"I'm Eli." He replied with a smile before covering his scar again.

Asher looked at Eli cover his scar before asking, "Why are you covering your lip?"

"Uh..." Eli's eyes darted between the other two kids. "I have a scar on my lip I don't like it."

"I think it looks cool." Arlo said smiling at Eli.

"Me too." Asher nodded his head.

Eli looked at the two a smile slowly creeping on his face. "Really?"

"Yeah!" Arlo answered while beginning to take off her jacket. "I have a big scar on my arm. Before we moved here, I got into a car accident with my dad and broke my arm bad. I had to have surgery and now I have this super cool scar." She lifted her left arm towards Eli showing the scar that went from her wrist and almost to her elbow. "There's also one on my forehead." Moving her hair behind her ear Eli saw another scar going from her hairline down next to her right eye.

"Woah." Eli's eyes widened looking at the girls scars and how she was proud showing them.

"I don't have any cool scars 'cause I wasn't there when that happened." Asher sighed and leaned into his chair. "It would be so cool."

Arlo and Eli laughed at Asher slightly before Asher joined in.

------

Eli and Arlo were inseparable, everywhere one of them went the other went as well. Asher had drifted away from the two of them in middle school. He joined the football team and suddenly he had no interest in anything the other two enjoyed. Arlo and Eli would spend their time playing video games or watching movies together while Asher would be at football practice or hanging out with his new friend group. At first it made Eli and Arlo upset but soon they didn't mind, in fact they enjoyed it being just the two of them.

One day in seventh grade while Eli and Arlo were sitting at a table alone at lunch a boy with dark brown hair came up to them. Eli and Arlo had been in a debate about who was the better Spider-Man, Toby Maguire or Andrew Garfield. Eli was in the middle of explaining why he thought Andrew Garfield was the better one of the two before he got interrupted by the boy that had been standing near them.

"If you actually watched the movies, you would know that Toby Maguire is obviously the better Spider-Man." The boy said before setting his tray on the table and sitting down.

"See he gets it!" Arlo exclaimed while pointing at the boy sitting across from her. "I'm Arlo."

"I'm Demetri." He replied while opening his carton of milk and turning towards Eli. "And you are?"

The three sat in silence for a few seconds before Arlo spoke up. "That's Eli."

Eli looked at Demetri and gave him a nod before covering his scar and looking down. Arlo grabbed Eli's hand and gently squeezed it under the table.

It had taken Eli awhile to warm up to Demetri but after he did the duo became a trio. The three would spend every minute together. Every Friday after school they would go to Eli's house and stay over, mostly in the basement. Arlo would watch the two boys play video games, every now and then grabbing Demetri's controller and playing as well.

------

Arlo couldn't imagine her life any other way, she didn't want to.

A/N: This was just a short chapter kind of for backstory and explaining how they met and stuff. Also if you were wondering Violet Mcgraw is young Arlo which is why I put her at the top of the chapter :)
