Two years ago..........

"Avni...... Avni..... Where are you?......." Her father called her as he came back from work.

"What happened Anand?" Avni's mother asked while offering him a glass of water. Today he was looking really very happy.

"Where is Avni?" He questioned while maintaining his smile.

"As if you don't know..... She is out with Ayush again. I don't know when will this girl understand  things?......She said and sat down on the couch.

He sat down on the couch as well while smiling.

"What happened Rima?" He asked  .

"Anand.... I want to talk to you about this since a long times. See Avni turned 18 now. She is not a kid. I know Ayush is a very nice boy and her good friend but  you know our society. It won't take them too long to start gossiping about others and I will not tolerate anything against my children. I tried many times to explain this to her but this girl... She never listens to me........." She said and sighed. Like every Indian mother she was worried about ki log kya kahenge (what people will say) .

"I know what you are  trying to say Rima....." His father said and held her hand.

"Rima.....I want to ask you something......" he said and she nodded.

"Rima...We know Ayush since he was a kid. You have seen him growing up.... So how do you find him?...."

"Huhhh...... Means.... I didn't get you....." She couldn't understand what he was trying to say.

"Well.... Actually today Suresh gave me a proposal...." His eyes were sparkling while talking.

"What proposal?......." She asked.

"He wants our Avni for his son. He wants to make her, his daughter in law........" He said and the happiness was quite visible on his face.

"Whattttt....... What are you saying Anand? Avni and Ayush......" She was surprised.

"Yes, Rima...... So tell me, what do you think?".... He asked.

"Anand... I know Ayush is a nice boy and we know his family too but Avni ....... "

"She is just 18....why are you thinking about her marriage so soon. Let her complete her studies. Let her become Independent.... It's her life. Let her decide......." She explained.

"You are right Rima but Suresh is my such an old friend. First time he asked me something, how could I deny and you know today's generation. It so hard to find a nice boy. Boys these days are so careless. They don't believe in family values but Ayush is not like that. Haven't you seen how much he respects his parents. I am sure Avni would be very happy with him and they just want to do engagement. They said they will wait for marriage....." He was trying to prove his point. The way he was getting excited she didn't want to kill his happiness.

"Ok Anand...... But first we have to talk to Avni..... If she agrees than we will see...." She said and went inside the kitchen.

"Come on Ayush...... It's almost 7. I am getting late.... Let's go......" Avni said while looking at her watch.

"Just a second Avni..... Please close your eyes...." He asked nervously.

"Huhhhh.... What..... Close my eyes why?" She couldn't understand. He was behaving strange.

"Please Avni.... Please close your eyes....." He insisted.

"All right....." She said in defeat  and closed her eyes. After a second she felt something on her finger. She instantly opened her eyes. Her eyes went wide with shock. Ayush slipped a ring on her finger. She stepped back with a jolt.
