Rook was given a spare room. Shieldy explained to Rook that he could stay with him for a while or forever if he wanted. Shieldy was very independent, having lost his parents at a very young age. So, he relies on himself to care for everything. Party Hat and Boombox do care for him and make sure he is OK and help raise Shieldy, but Shieldy was on his own, mostly.

Rook limped into his bed. He wanted to sleep and recover fully from his illness. He felt like if he didn't, he would need to go to the hospital, as the other objects called it, to take care of him.

He had his life back, he didn't want it to be taken away again, even if he was scared of his new life and not knowing what was going to happen in the future.

Rook slept soundly. His illness helped with his sleep, or lack of it at least. He felt like he could sleep forever, until...

*stomach growling*

Rook awoke with a start. His stomach was growling and he was very hungry. He realized he hadn't really eaten all that much since being freed. The only things he ate throughout the day was French fries, and popcorn.

He didn't eat much despite everyone forcing him to, because he didn't want to be a burden towards everyone. Especially since everyone had already done so much for him, even though he didn't deserve it at all.

He slowly got up and made his way to the kitchen. He found some bread on the counter.

Being a servant in his other life, he was used to eating peasant food and dishes. Bread was common for objects like him to eat. He would also eat soup, cabbage, beans, eggs, oats, and cheese.

He ate several slices of bread. He felt so much better now that he was truly eating after a long time of not really eating anything. He looked into the fridge. (A machine he was weary of earlier, but grew to be used to as the day went on.)

He found some cheese on the door. He ate some of the cheese. Taking small, humble bites.

After eating, Rook felt better. He headed back to his room before something else caught his eye. In the living room, he found a small bookshelf. He was intrigued.

Back in his years, the castle library was always such a treat. When he was being raised in the castle to be a fine servant, everyone would take some time to read him many different stories from the books the library had to offer.

Rook smiled as he remembered those fond memories.

Rook reached up and pulled out a random book. He was curious.

This book was known as, "The Knight to Remember".

Rook was very eager to read the book. It seemed to be just the right book he needed to read. It was a lucky find for him.

Rook opened the book and began on the first page.

"Once upon a time..."

Rook shivered and sneezed. This, unfortunately, interrupted him.

Poor Rook hated his sickly state. He blew his nose into his handkerchief.

There, that was much better. He turned his attention back to the book in question.

"Once upon a time..."

Rook read the story all throughout the night. He loved every last bit of it.

The story was about a brave shield, like Shieldy, who went on a quest to save the beautiful princess from a terrible fire-breathing dragon, who had kidnapped her and locked her away in a tower. The shield braved many obstacles along the way. They included, traveling through the hottest deserts, the horrible seas plagued with storms, a grumpy troll who forbade anyone to cross his bridge, and lastly the dragon himself.

The more Rook read, the more intrigued he was and the more he was into it. He loved the story so much. It reminded him of his childhood days. How much he respected and honored the brave and royal knights of the castle.

How much he wanted to be like them one day. Even though he was also forced to be a servant.

Well, after being a servant for so long, his wishes to be a knight were all but a fantasy, and he joined the medieval version of Brawl of the Objects to be free of his servant duties, wanting to be free.

Unfortunately, his selfishness cost him dearly.

Resulting in him, to never ever be more than just a servant. Serving Scissors, whom he thought was Princess Shears, to prove that he was no longer that selfish chess piece, that cost him everything.

***********************

Rook placed the book back on the shelf before heading off to bed. It was nearly morning, and he needed to sleep to be ready for the next morning.

Hopefully, he would get the answers to his questions of his future.

And prove that he wasn't the selfish chess piece that destroyed everything so long ago.
