chapter 17- back to our regularly scheduled program!

Your alarm blared loudly throughout your bedroom, making you groan as you reached for your phone and immediately hit snooze.

How you so badly wanted to go back asleep and pretend that this day was still months away.

But you knew you couldn't.

Today was both you and Elena's first day back to school.

Yuck.

Staring up at your ceiling for another couple seconds, you begrudgingly yanked off your especially cozy blanket this morning and got up with a groan.

Your eye lids felt so heavy, almost threatening to stay closed any time you blinked.

Making your way to the bathroom, you locked the door and grabbed your toothbrush. You wet the bristles before lathering it with toothpaste, brushing your teeth to start the day as you scrolled through your phone.

You pressed on your photo app, doing that stupid thing it did and showed you memories from months ago.

Your circular motions of brushing stopped abruptly at a certain picture; both Leo and your sister fast asleep as she was curled on his plastron, watching space hero's together on the couch.

They looked so content and peaceful like that. Elena seemed so safe.

You stared at the photo with an unreadable expression, hold tightening subtly on your phone before you spit and continued to get ready, pushing those thoughts away.

You splashed cold water in your face, assuring that you wouldn't fall asleep (hopefully) before heading back to your room and get ready.

At your vanity, your attention was caught as a notification echoed, pausing your music briefly as you looked down to the text.

A smile formed on your face unconsciously at his message, the two of you growing closer since he had asked for your number. You two damn near texted almost every day, always seeing how you were and making sure you were ok.

You couldn't help but feel a bit guilty, were you leading him on? You weren't oblivious, you could tell he was at least a little attracted to you, coming up to you in the middle of nowhere, asking for your number, hell, even the way he'd smile so sweetly at you.

Then again, you could have sworn Leo liked you too but that didn't work out too well did it?

You huffed out a breath at your internal depressing thoughts as you chose to brush it off for now, cranking up your music and humming along to get yourself as hyped as you could get so early in the morning.

You danced to bit in your chair, blending out concealer and blush. While many people didn't like makeup or doing it for that matter, you did. It made you look and feel good. It was a routine, you didn't feel like yourself if you didn't and couldn't feel a bit put together unless you did it. But, there was pros and cons with everything, and ever since you started doing it you didn't feel pretty without it. That's exactly why you didn't want Elena to rush into wearing it.

She was such a pretty girl, she had the cutest button nose and big eyes you could never say no to. But, maybe you were biased since she was your little sister, and she looked just like your mother.
