trigger warning: abuse, mentions of abuse, alcoholism

"Dad?" You eyed him with uncertainty as your fists clenched out of habit.

"Dad! How was your trip?" The man was unresponsive as he stood up from the couch he was sitting on. Your little sister clung to his leg as he stood in one spot, his eyes never leaving you. "Dad?" Elena looked up at him expectantly, awaiting his answer.

Out of the corner of your eye, you saw something that wasn't supposed to be there. Your eyes traveled to the kitchen, noticing seven empty beer bottles on the counter.

Your eyes found its way back to your father. You were met with a deep glare by said man.

"Elena? Why don't you go to your room and play on my phone kay'?" You slowly pulled out your phone from your back pocket as you looked down to the oblivious child. Your tone was sweet as you didn't want to frighten her.

"Huh? But I want to talk to pa!" She whined as she stomped her foot down in frustration.

"Now Elena." Your voice was firm and stern, to which you both weren't used to. She stared at you in surprise until finally, she let go of your dad and made her way towards you.

"Geez. So bossy." She muttered as she snatched the phone out of your hand. You let out a deep sigh when you heard her door slam shut. She really didn't need to see what was about to happen.

You glanced back to the man in front of you but just for a moment. He still hadn't said a word since you've walked in and you sure as hell weren't going to start a conversation. Walking passed him, you decided to clean up the mess he made in the kitchen.

"Where were you?" He spoke, his voice hoarse due to the amount of drinks he had. Your hand froze as you were about to grab a bottle, thrown off guard by his question.

"Work." You regained composure as you answered him simply. But you hesitated. He could tell you were lying.

"Bullshit." He muttered harshly, barely audible you almost couldn't hear him.

"Excuse me?"

"I said that's bullshit y/n. Your schedule is on the fridge so I know you had the morning shift. You should've been home when I got here." He spoke louder this time. You could hear him slur his words, a dead give away that he was drunk out of his mind. "How stupid do you think I am?"

"I don't think you want me to answer that." You said quietly to yourself.

"What did you just say?" He barked.

"I said I was with some friends after I got out of work." You quickly responded, covering your slip up. When he's drunk you know he's aggressive, so maybe now wasn't the best time to be a smart ass.

"What friends?" He questioned further.

"New ones." You grabbed a beer bottle as you threw it in the trash.

"How new?"

"Does it matter? I didn't realize I was under investigation for having a life other than working and taking care of my sister." You scoffed as you rolled your eyes.

'What happened to not being a smart ass y/n!'

"Watch your tone." Your hands clenched in anger around the bottle you were holding. It was getting harder and harder to hold in your temper.

"And where have you been may I ask? It's been what, a month since I've last seen you?"

"It doesn't matter." He made his way over to the fridge to grab himself another drink.
