As you stood at the front door, you heard various voices yelling, causing you to raise a brow in confusion. Grabbing the key from your back pocket, you unlocked the door and opened it quietly."I'll teach you to draw four on me you little twerp!"
"Aahhh! Jason I'm sorry!" Stepping into the living room, you saw Jason chase around his little brother. "Y/n! Save me!" Max quickly hid behind you and clung to your shirt. His older brother continued to chase him and they both ran around you in circles, making you dizzy trying to keep up with them with your eyes. Elena and Claire watched the scene unfold as they were seated on the floor, both looking unbothered.
"Uhh, what're you guys doing?"
"Playing Uno." Elena answered simply as she picked up a card from the stack.
"Right..." The two brothers continued to play cat and mouse around you before you finally walked into the kitchen, away from their chaos. You reached the fridge and opened it, grabbing yourself a cold water bottle.
"So, how was the apartment?" Claire asked.
You removed the cap from the bottle and took a long drink of the beverage. "Oh, that. Yeah I didn't end up going." You responded nonchalantly. The older woman looked at you in bewilderment.
"But I thought you were gonna go look at it after hanging out with your friends?"
"Yeah well plans changed." You shrugged as you sat on the floor next to your sister. Your manager sat across from you, looking at you like you've just grown another head.
"So where are you gonna stay?"
"My friends are willing to let us stay for as long as we need to. So go pack your stuff Elena. We're gonna head out early tomorrow."
"Ok!" She set her cards down as she ran to Jason's room. Your eyes met with Claire's as she stared at you skeptically.
"What?"
"Nothing. I just hope you know what your doin' kid." She looked down to her hand of cards and placed a blue five down.
"What's that supposed to mean?" You picked up Elena's forgotten deck and placed a yellow five on top of hers.
"All I'm saying is I hope your hangin' around the right crowd." She placed a yellow nine on top of the table.
"Are you trying to say I have a poor sense of judgment?" You said, slightly offended by her insinuation. You put down a yellow draw two. "Uno."
She sighed as she took two cards from the deck. "I didn't say that Y/n. You're a smart kid, I'm sure your friends are too. But you have to understand, it's not just you you have to think about, Elena's involved too. Are you sure that this is what's best for her?" You looked at her for a moment before looking down into your lap, your hands holding a green three.
"They're good people Claire." You said after a minute of silence.
"I hope your right kid, for your sake and hers." She placed a wild card on the table. "Change the color to green." You smiled smugly at your luck, placing your three on top of her card.
"Trust me, I know what I'm doing." Before she could respond, Jason walked in with Max thrown over his shoulder.
"Aye mom, can we order Chinese food? I'm starving." He asked while the younger boy squirmed in Jason's grasp.
"Only if you let go of your brother." She gave her first born a stern glare.
"Tsk. Fine." He put the boy down while muttering something threatening in his ear that you unfortunately could not hear. Max gasped dramatically as he ran to his mother.
