You woke up in a cold sweat, your heart was pounding against your rib cage and your breathing was ragged. You tightly gripped your blankets as you attempted to calm your racing mind from the reoccurring nightmare that played over and over in your head as you slept. Ever since the incident with the Purple Dragons, you've been having severe panic attacks and would constantly be awoken from sleep by them.Nothing would trigger you throughout the day to have them, it's when you're sleeping when your mind decides to go into a frenzy.
You would have the same night terror every time you slept, you remembered it so graphically you could explain every detail without even trying.
The Purple Dragons would corner you and Elena in that same dark alley, just like that night. They would rip her from your grasp so easily and have their way with you, treating you as if you were nothing more but a rag doll. The last thing you would hear before you woke up was your little sisters blood curling scream.
It was truly twisted that your brain would never allow you to remember your pleasant dreams, but you could always recall your nightmares so vividly.
You pulled at your hair as you took deep breaths in and out, your rapid heart rate not slowing down in the slightest. You were frustrated. Why was it so hard to forget? It's been more than a week since that's happened and you were still unable to get a good night's rest.
"You're fine y/n, you're fine. You're safe, Elena's safe, you don't need to worry about anything." You softly whispered comforting truths to yourself, an attempt to calm your thumping heart and shaking body.
'Is she safe though? I mean, when was the last time you checked up on her?'
Your eyes widened at your negative thinking. You quickly jumped out of your bed, quietly opening your bedroom door and walking down your hallway, making your way towards your sister's room.
A door was in front of you, Elena's name plastered in the middle of it with colorful stickers. You hesitated. What if she wasn't in her room and your thoughts had been right? You don't know what you would do if that was the case.
Slowly, you turned her doorknob, being as quiet as possible. Once you were inside you tip toed towards her bed, the cold wooden floor sending chills throughout your body as you stepped on it with your bare feet. You made your way towards her bed side, seeing her small frame bundled up comfortably in her blankets. The sound of small snores made its way up to your ears, causing you to let out the breath you didn't realize you were holding. You crouched down to see your little sister better. Her mouth was slightly parted as a little bit of drool made its way down the edge of her lips, causing you to hold back a chuckle. Her eyes were shut softly as she slept.
She looked peaceful.
'Unlike someone.' You rolled your eyes at the thought that popped up in the back of your head.
With a light kiss on her temple, you stood up and made your way out of her room, closing her door carefully as to not wake the little girl a few feet away from you.
Before you shut the door all the way, you whispered to her, knowing fully well she couldn't hear you.
"Sweet dreams."
You then made your way to your bedroom, shutting the door behind you. Your back was against your door as you slid down to your cold, wooden floor, pulling your knees up to your chest.
You were utterly exhausted, both mentally and physically. No matter how hard you tried you couldn't help but think back onto that situation.
'What if Leo wasn't there?' You seemed to constantly ask yourself that question when your mind revisits that horrible memory.
