Around eleven o'clock at the Summer House, Sarah was in the kitchen looking for something to eat before she went to the debutante lunch with Belly.
As she searched for a snack in the cabinets, Conrad entered through the back door, wearing only his swim trunks.
Sarah huffed in frustration as she struggled to reach the granola bars on the top shelf. Standing on her ties with her arms stretched out, she still couldn't grasp it.
Conrad noticed her struggle and stepped closer, reaching up to grab the box with a smile. His chest lightly pressed against her back.
Her breath caught, and she closed her eyes briefly. Her chest tightened, and tears threatened, but she blinked them away,
"Here." Conrad said, stepping back.
Sarah turned to him, accepting the box he offered. "Thanks."
"I didn't want a repeat of last summer when you almost broke your arm falling off counter." He said.
"Yeah, but you caught me." Sarah mumbled as they stood, almost, chest to chest. Her heart raced, thumping irregularly as their breaths mingled.
"I'll always be there for you." Conrad mumbled in a low voice. Sarah took a step back, clearing her throat. She couldn't allow herself to be hurt by him again. "About last summer-"
"Thanks, for these." Sarah quickly said, grabbing a few granola bars and shoved them into her pockets. "I'll, um, see you later."
Before Conrad could say anything else, she hurriedly made her way to the front door, closing it behind her.

Belly and Sarah arrived at the Country Club for their debutante lunch later in the day. Laurel kindly drove them there, with Sarah nervously picking at her nails in the back seat while Belly sat in the front.
As Laurel parked outside the Country Club, Sarah and Belly thanked her before getting out of the car. They walked towards the front of the building, until Laurel called out to her daughter.
"Belly." Laurel called out, catching the girls' attention. "I just want you to know that if you decide you hate it or if the girls are mean or even if the food is bad, you can text me. I promise I won't say 'I told you so'."
"I'll be fine." Belly replied, eager to escape.
"Humor me?" Laurel insisted. "Use our code phrase, and I'll be right there."
"Mum."
"You remember it from when you were little, right?"
"Lemon Jelly Belly." The two said simultaneously, causing Sarah to smile at the mother-daughter duo.
Sarah recalled the code word. It was what Laurel had instructed Belly to use if she was ever in trouble or needed to escape a situation.
"Don't worry, Laur. I'll watch out for her." Sarah reassured with a smile.
