Yukari oiled the pistol, illuminated by the lights caused by the aurora.
"And there we go." Yukari said, setting the pistol down.
As she stared at the pistol, she felt a sense of dread wash over her as she stared at it, briefly remembering the man she shot days ago.
She sighed, putting her face in her hands and feeling ashamed she did it, and never thought about it until now.
She shook that, though out of her head and stood up, walking to get some food.
She opened the pantry and noticed how low it was.
Vaughn and Miho took some of the meat for their journey, leaving her with some, but probably not enough.
She glanced at her rifle and thought about hunting before realizing she didn't really know how to hunt.
"Vaughn is a hunter. He should know how to hunt." She said, closing the door with a bag of ketchup chips and a summit soda, looking at the books in his bedroom.
She found a book on how to track and shoot an animal humanly.
She sat down and read the book, eating her chips.
After a while, she had a basic understanding of how to do it and went to sleep.
...
The next morning, Yukari sat up, yawning and packing her backpack light.
She picked up her rifle and tucked the pistol in her back pocket.
She exited the house, walking towards the treeline.
She entered the treeline, searching for any animal tracks.
After a while, she found a fairly large set of tracks.
"Wow. That is a huge deer." She said, following them.
After a while, she walked to a large lake, where a moose stood.
"That's not a deer." Yukari said, kneeling down.
She raised her rifle and chambered a round.
She slowed her breathing, aiming behind the shoulder and pulling the trigger.
The moose dropped and ceased moving as Yukari stood up and walked to the body.
She smiled, thinking about all the meat she had just acquired.
She set down her rifle, pulled out her knife, and started skinning it.
She managed to pull off the large pelt and began cutting away the meat.
Yukari felt a strange sense of dread and looked around.
She looked behind her to see three men in orange jumpsuits approaching her.
"Well, hello there." A husky man said.
Yukari stood up and grabbed her rifle.
"Ha! Look at that. That rifle is bigger than you, girl." The man said.
Yukari chambered another round and aimed.
"Get back!" Yukari said.
The convicts continued walking towards her as she pulled the trigger.
Her shot hit the large man in the abdomen.
He dropped, groaning in pain and clutching his wound as the other two men ran at her.
She turned and sprinted away as the two men chased her.
"Come back here you bitch!"
"Stop!"
"Don't worry, it'll be quick!"
Yukari chambered another round and spun around, firing her rifle into the chest of the second man.
He dropped to the ground, as the last man caught her.
"Gottcha!" He said.
Yukari struggled against him as he forced her to the ground.
He chuckled as he held her down.
"What's this?" He asked, grabbing her pistol.
"44 magnum. That's too big for you, girl." He said, tossing his gun to the side.
Yukari managed to get one arm free, and under her jacket.
"What else do you have?" He asked, grabbing her arm.
Yukari quickly thrusted a knife into the man's side as he yelled in pain.
Yukari repeatedly stabbed him as he stood up and ran.
Blood poured on the snow as the man ran across the field to his friend, the husky fellow.
He helped him to his feet, and the two quickly ran back towards the trees.
Yukari looked at her bloodstained hands in shock, quickly looking at the wounded convict on the ground.
Blood seeped from his mouth as he had a hand over his injury, an inch above his heart.
Yukari picked up her guns and walked back towards the moose, wiping her hands clean and finished skinning it.
She wrapped the pelt up and hoisted it on her back with the meat stuffed in her backpack.
It weighed a lot already as she struggled back to the cabin.
Eventually, she made it back and dropped off her things.
She laid the pelt on the floor, unsure what else to do with it, and started preparing dinner with the moose meat.
