The pirates stopped within the next day.

Annabeth had made their plan based on things that had happened with the crew before. They weren't sure if it would work or not, but Annabeth had to hope.

As they heard the footsteps left, they enacted their plan. They had created a rope-looking thing that could reach the key on the wall. The grabbed it, but before they could use use it a pirate came down.

He grinned at them and took the key off the wall. Annabeth felt her face pale. Neither she nor Will said anything, just watched as the pirate left with the key in his possession.

After he was gone, Annabeth rounded on her friend. "Now what? He took the key!"

Will shook his head in despair. "I don't know. That was our only way to get out of here."

Annabeth searched her cunning mind for anything, but nothing would work in their circumstances.

She and Will sat down and waited for the pirates to return.

                                                                       ***

Annabeth's head snapped up as she heard a clatter from above. She glanced toward Will, who she noticed fell asleep a while ago.

"Will!" She whispered as loudly as she could. She reached over and shook him awake. Will rubbed his eyes and looked around blearily.

"What?" He said groggily.

"Someone's on the ship!" Annabeth replied. "It sounded like they knocked out the guards posted above us!"

Will sat up. "It could be Percy."

Annabeth thought about how many pirates Luke would leave on his ship. "No, I don't think so. Luke would have left plenty of people onboard to guard his ship." And me, she added in her head.

Will nodded. "Percy's a strong fighter. You don't think he became that feared from nothing, do you?"

"Yeah, I guess." Annabeth said uncertainly. She doubted that one person could take out that many pirates. But just as she had that thought, someone came down the stairs.

He had black windblown hair, a sharp jaw, and (Annabeth's breath caught) sea green eyes.  He was tall too, about a head and some taller than her, and, much to Annabeth's surprise, he was young. He looked around her age! He grinned a troublemakers smile and immediately looked at Will.

"This is her?" He asked.

Will grinned and nodded. "Yep, Annabeth Chase, meet Percy Jackson."

Percy Jackson? Annabeth thought. Not what I was expecting.

Percy picked up on her thoughts. "Let me guess," he started, "you were expecting someone older, stronger looking, with a scowl and tattoos all over?"

Annabeth slowly nodded.

Percy looked at Will again. "Does she talk?"

Annabeth answered for Will. "Yes, she does."

Percy smiled. "Good, I was worried there for a second. I don't know sign language."

Annabeth was about to reply when Will cut in. "I don't suppose you have a key?"

Percy grinned again, and Annabeth had the feeling not much could bring his high spirits down.

"Who needs a key?" Percy asked, and drew his sword.

His sword looked Greek, with a leaf-looking blade and finely crafted handle. On it was inscribed Anaklusmos.

"It means Riptide." Percy's voice said.

Annabeth looked up sharply, now noticing he had been watching her. "Thanks for the information, but I already knew what it meant."

Percy's eyebrow rose. "Wise girl, are we?"

Annabeth felt her face go red. "Don't underestimate me," she said.

Percy held up his hands in a defensive gesture. "It wasn't an insult, just stating a fact. Not many people know Greek."

Percy walked toward the cell, sword in hand, and cut through the lock. He opened the door and bowed. "After you, wise girl."

Annabeth stalked past him, already annoyed with the pirate. She could hear Will behind her following her, and she had almost made it up the steps when she saw a flash of blonde hair and a scar.

Percy was immediately in front of her. "Luke Castellan," Percy said, "I would've thought ransoming princesses was a little to risky for you."

Luke had a sly grin on his face as he said, "I can do anything, Percy. Unlike you."

Percy's eyebrow raised again as they circled each other. "Wow, that was a terrible insult."

Luke swung at him before Percy had finished his sentence. Percy ducked under it, and when he came up he was swinging his sword at Annabeth and Will's old captor. It was a clash of skill and precision, and only Annabeth's skill with a knife let her follow what was happening. Percy and Luke seemed matched at every turn, until she saw that Will had gone behind Luke.

Annabeth grinned as Will grabbed a lantern from the ship and hit it over Luke's head with so much force that he fell to the ground unconscious.

Percy turned around, surprised, to find Will standing there rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "Sorry," he said, "I knew you had him, but his crew is coming back."

Percy and Annabeth simultaneously looked over his shoulder to see that he was correct. There were lots of pirates heading toward him. Percy changed his line of sight to the now unconscious Luke Castellan.

"What are we going to do with him?" Annabeth asked, afraid that the feared Percy Jackson was going to kill him right there. Instead, Percy sheathed his sword.

"We're going to leave him here for his crew to find."

Annabeth looked at him surprised. "Really?" She asked.

Percy nodded. "I don't attack unconscious people. No matter how bad they are."

Annabeth observed Percy more carefully. There was determination in his eyes, but also laughter and fun. This was not a typical pirate captain.

Percy nodded towards another ship. "C'mon. We don't want to be here when the crew gets back." He and Will started walking off the ship, but Annabeth couldn't help the feeling that she had forgotten something. She glanced around before deciding she was paranoid. She followed Captain Percy Jackson and Will towards the dock.

Percy led them to a beautifully crafted ship. On its hull was engraved Poseidon's Treasure. It was a three mast ship, so Annabeth guessed there was a fair sized crew on board.

Percy turned around and walked backwards with his hands raised and a grin on his face. "Welcome to my humble ship."

Annabeth couldn't keep a smile off her face as she replied, "This is a pretty big ship, Percy."

Percy nodded. "It's my pride and joy." He paused. "And Will is the medic."

Annabeth turned to the blonde haired boy. "That's why you said you were sorta a doctor." It wasn't a question, it was a statement.

Will nodded. "Yeah. The whole crew is pretty good at getting injured."

"We are pirates, Will." Percy said. He was leading them on deck, where Annabeth could make out a couple people.

"Everyone gather around," Percy called, "I have someone I want you to meet."
