Years had passed. We graduated from Maple Leaf College. Katharina and I were still in a relationship, Maia and Thaddy were going strong, and Regina and Agathe are single and ready to have a date. June 27, 1997, was the day we graduated. It was a mixed emotion, we were happy because we finally finished the cramming, late-night studies for tests we have got to take, and waking up early is not necessarily needed. Sad and worried about not being able to see each other regularly, for having to take a job interview you aren't sure to get, and of course, we're scared that we might grow apart.
After the graduation day, my mom invited Maia's, Katharina's, Agathe's, Regina's, and Melissa's family over for dinner. At sharp seven in the evening, they all arrived. Katharina's first with her parents and two younger siblings Karina and Kalista. They are 13-year-old twins. Then came Maia, with her dad, and then Regina and Agathe's parents came.
We sat down at the dinner table talking about the 'college life' we had. Mrs Taylor brags about Karina about about a-straight student benefits at her school, while Kalista is grinning beside her mom. Then, my mom bragged about me as I graduated with high grades... Agathe's parents didn't talk that much. After dinner, we had the last course. Dessert. After that, Thaddeus, Maia, Regina, and Agathe left in the garden while our parents are in the living room with Karina and Kalista.
"How about we all intern at Regina's company? Besides, you're the only heir." Katharina said pointing at Regina, "I mean, if I were your parents I would let my daughter take over the company" and then let out a chuckle.
"Really, kitty? Do I look like I would run a company?" Regina said jokingly.
"How about you Maia?" Agathe asked. My brother instantly looked at his girlfriend.
"Well, I am planning to go to England to join an intern for future journalists."
I can see the sadness on Thaddeus' face. His eyes were about to release water. At that time Thaddeus didn't know that Maia was going to London to do an internship and Maia thought that it was fine for Thaddeus because he wanted the best for her. The two of them, well, that night they got into a huge fight.
"Well, someone's mad," Kath said jokingly.
I didn't tell you about my father not coming. He just sent a gift which just meant he sent money. Money doesn't matter if he isn't there. He always did that. Giving fancy gifts my brother and I never wished for and then saying that we're ungrateful when we complain that he was never there. Call me ungrateful if you want, I don't care.
After the occasion, I immediately talked to Kath. I asked her if she would love to go to New York as an aspiring musician. It turns out that she just doesn't want music as her job. She wants to just rest and continue the work that her parents made. I thought she wasn't serious about that, but she is.
I went straight to bed after the Taylor family left. As I lay down, I heard my brother crying. He knocked on my door weeping.
"She's leaving me..."
"Maia, she wouldn't do that, she's head-over-heels."
We sat down in my bedroom to talk about it. He was scared that he might lose Maia and said that he thinks that Maia was with another guy that's why she was leaving.
"Thaddy, listen, Maia loves you very much, she will never do such a thing, apologize to her Thads, and give her a chance to make her dreams her come true."
