CHAPTER 6

"Mackenzie Helps James"

"Welcome to Sodor, Pop. 75,000, give or take..."

James had not been out of the Shed to push coaches or trucks for several days. He was shut up in the shed for being naughty, and he was feeling very miserable. 

James: Oh dear! I wonder how long I will have to stay here in the shed! Will anyone ever see my beautiful red paint again? Why did I go so fast that I made a hole in one of my coaches, that had to be mended by Mackenzie with of all things, a passenger's bootlace? 

 At last, Mackenzie arrived with Sir Topham Hatt.

Sir Topham Hatt: Hello James. We both know you're sorry, and we know too that you want to be a useful engine.

Mackenzie: To add insult to injury, Sir Topham Hatt told me that People are laughing at the railway, and we do not like that at all! 

James: I will try hard to do my best, you two! I'm truly sorry!

Sir Topham Hatt: That's a good engine! There's nothing like determination! I want you and Mackenzie to pull a goods train for me! 

Mackenzie happily climbed aboard a delighted James and they puffed away to the station. Thomas, Bluey, and Bingo were getting their train ready. Needless to say, they all heard about the incident with the bootlaces from Mr. Conductor.

Thomas: (finishes shunting) Here's your goods train, James! All ready to go! 

Bluey: And by the way, have you and Mackenzie got some bootlaces ready? 

Thomas and the Girls ran off laughing 

Bingo: That was so funny! 

James scoffed. He did not like being reminded about the incident. He backed down on his train.

Trucks: Oh No, no! We want a proper engine, not a red monster! 

Mackenzie: Pay no attention to them, James! I think you can do it!

James did pay no attention to the trucks and set off as soon as the Guard was ready. 

James: Come along! Come along! 

Trucks: No We won't! No, we won't! 

James didn't care, and he pulled the screeching trucks out of the station. 

The trucks tried hard to make James and Mackenzie give up, but still, they kept on going! Sometimes, their brakes would slip on accidentally on purpose, and sometimes their axles would run hot, and each time, Mackenzie had to put the trouble right, and each time, he and James would start again, determined not to let these troublesome trucks beat him.
