Chapter 12

"The Great Engine Strike Pt. 1: Tenders and Turntables"

Told By Mark Morhagan

"Welcome to Sodor, Pop. 75,000, give or take..."

Created by John Andrews

Bingo returned home with a lot on her mind one evening. She had told Bluey and Thomas about the Developing situation on the mainline, and Even Bluey began to share that concern.

Especially now that Henry, Gordon, and James were feeling that they were being mistreated. The other engines and their companions thought they were being very silly indeed.

But all the same, Thomas, Bluey, and Bingo were concerned that the situation would lead to a boiling point, and eventually "bubble over" into instability.

In fact, The tension rose so much that the Three big engines decided to do something practically unheard of! But before I can tell you that story, I'll have to tell you this story.

The Big Stations at both ends of the mainline (Knapford and Vicarstown respectively) each have a turntable. Sir Topham Hatt had made them so that Edward, Henry, Gordon, and James could be turned around and be ready to take their trains.

This practice is regular for The Tender Engine's dog friends because everyone knows it's dangerous for tender engines to go fast while going backwards.

On the other hand, Tank Engines like Thomas don't need turntables. They can go just as well backwards as they can go forwards.

But if you heard Gordon talking a short while ago, you might have thought that Sir Topham Hatt had given him a tender just to show how important he was!

It happened when Gordon and Judo met Thomas and the Heelers at Elsbridge Station. Gordon had stopped to rest his wheels.

Gordon: You don't understand, Little Thomas! We Tender engines have a position to keep up! You haven't one, so that makes it different. It doesn't matter where you go, but we are important! And for Sir Topham Hatt to make us shunt trucks and fetch coaches, and go on some of those dirty sidings... It's... it's... well, it's not the proper thing!

Bluey: (rolls eyes and chuckles) Oh please...

Thomas: (chuckling as they go off) Poor old Gordon! I think someone's getting a little big for his tender! And that's saying something because Gordon's pretty big to start out with.

*Bluey and Bingo laugh*

Bluey: Oh, Thomas! You're such a funny little Engine! You always make us laugh!

Thomas: Thanks, Girls.

Later, when Gordon arrived at Tidmouth Sheds to be turned around after he let off his passengers at the Terminus, he was still grumbling! And not just because he was running tender first to do so.
