Chapter 8

"The Ffarquahar Fishing Incident"

Told By Mark Morhagan

"Welcome to Sodor, Pop. 75,000, give or take..."

Created by John Andrews

When Thomas the Tank Engine travels along his branch line with his two companions, Bluey and her sister Bingo, they always look forward to something special: The sight of the river.

As they would rumble over the bridge, they would see people fishing. Sometimes the people would stand quietly by their lines, while others would jerk fish out of the water. Thomas often wanted to stay and watch them, but Bluey thought otherwise.

Bluey: No, Thomas. What would Sir Topham Hatt say if we were late?!

Thomas: You're right Bluey. He probably wouldn't like it. Though it would be nice to stop here.

But all the same, every time he met another engine, he would say the same thing as Bluey would go to Lunch with Bingo.

Thomas: I want to fish!

James: Don't be silly, Thomas! Engines don't go fishing!

Thomas: (in thought) Silly Stick-in-the-muds. I'll show them one day.

Bluey and Bingo hoped not, but unfortunately, it did. It was the next day when they stopped at Elsbridge Station to take in water as usual.

Bluey: We can't fill up here. The sign says it's out of order!

Bingo: I know! I tried turning on the tap but nothing came out!

Thomas: Oh Botheration! Oh, Bother! I'm thirsty!

Bingo: We know, Thomas. We'll think of something!

Bluey: Never mind that Water column, Thomas. It might be primitive, but we'll get some water from the river!

Bingo: Are you sure about this, Bluey?

Bluey: Quite sure. The river's water is fresh enough for a steam engine to take in! I think. It's not the best option to get it from, but it will do!

The Heeler sisters found a bucket and some rope and then went to the bridge. They stopped right in the middle. Thomas was tired and thirsty.

The Heelers tied the rope to the handle of the bucket, then Bluey let the Bucket down into the water. The bucket was old and had five holes in it. This meant that Bluey and Bingo had to fill it, pull it up, and empty it into Thomas' Tank as quickly as they could, several times over.

Bingo: (singing) 🎵There's a hole in my bucket, Dear Liza, dear Liza...

Bluey: Heehee! Never mind about Liza! Just empty the water into Thomas's Tank before you spill it on me!
