Murtasim woke up the next morning to find Meerab gone.

He ran downstairs to find her in the kitchen, making breakfast.

'Tum nashta kyun Bana Rahi ho?'

Meerab gave him a very odd look , ' Ab tou mai hi Khana banati hoon, kya ap ko koi Kaam tha?'

'Nahi Meerab you're sick, tumhay zaroorat Nahi hai Kaam karnay ki.'

' I was feeling better, Nashta ready hai, ap table per baithain main la Rahi hoon', Meerab picked up the parathas.

He took it out of her hands and handed it to one of the servants, 'Table lagwao, challo Meerab', he pulled her to the table.

He looked at her taking tiny bites of toast, she looked really pale and exhausted.
'kuch aur Khana hai?'

'nahi, itni bhook Nahi hai'

Her hands had felt very warm, was the fever coming back?

'Acha, tum ja Kar rest Karo, koi Kaam karnay ki zaroorat Nahi hai.', she nodded at him.

Maa Begum looked as if she wanted to say something, but a look from Marium silenced her.

He had wanted to talk to Meerab after breakfast but alot of work was waiting for him. Murtasim looked at her walking away with a sigh, she was walking slowly as if slightly dizzy.

Bakhtu handed him a file and Murtasim tore his eyes away from her retreating figure and focused on the work infront of him.

Finishing work early as possible Murtasim walked into his room to find Meerab lying on the bed with a book. She was alone.

'Maria Kahan hai', that girl had one job !

Meerab sat up immediately when she heard him, he sounded so angry

'Murtasim Woh mainay usay bhaij Diya tha thori Der Kay liyay, main room main hi thi na.'

'us Ka Kaam tumharay Seth rehna hai', he growled turning towards the door again. How dare she leave his sick wife alone .

Meerab had gotten used to being on her own in Islamabad and being followed around had seriously annoyed her. She had convinced an unwilling Maria to leave her alone for awhile, thinking Murtasim wouldn't be back till later.

'Nahi us ki Galti Nahi thi please mainay us ko mana kiya tha', Meerab ran after him, tripping on the rug.

Murtasim caught her before she hit the floor. Fuck, she had lost so much weight he thought as he carried her back to bed.

'Ap please us ko Kuch mat bolain, mainay us ko bhaija tha.'

'its okay Meerab don't stress, tum nay lunch karliya?'

' jee', he frowned, if breakfast was anything to go by she was barely eating. How much weight had she lost ?

'Meerab', he started unsure of how to tell her how sorry he was.

She blinked up at him, waiting patiently.

'mujhay tumharay sath aisa Nahi karna Chahiyay tha', he held her hand softly.

She didn't say anything.

' You're not a prisoner and you're not a servant Meerab, meri biwi ho and I should have treated you accordingly. Ab tumhain koi Kuch Nahi bolay ga.'

'Tou kya main ab akeli ja saktin hoon bahir, guards Kay baghair ?'

Without guards? she knew he couldn't allow that.

'Meerab tum ', he tried to justify it but she stopped him.

'mainay ab accept karliya hai Kay meri Zindagi yay hai, yay hi meri qismat main Likha hai. ap ko darnay ki zarorat Nahi hai main ab kahin nahi jaon gi, there were tears in her eyes.

'Meerab Nahi , I'm so sorry for everything that happened. Jaan I was so angry I didn't realise main kya Kar Raha hoon.'

She looked away from him, to the setting sun outside. ' Islamabad buhat khoobsoorat tha, thankyou for taking me.'

'Meerab mai..'

' I don't want to talk about this please.'

' Meerab let me apologize, I'll do whatever you want. Jaan please forgive me', he held her face and wiped away her tears.

She got up and walked away to the dressing table.

' Don't you see I have to forgive you ?kyun Kay meray pass koi aur option Nahi hai.'

' Meerab please, tum bachpan say jaanti ho mujhay', he walked towards her.

'ap aj maafi mang Rahay Hain , kal wapis yay karlay gain. you can do whatever you want Murtasim and I just have to survive with whatever you give me.'

She turned around to face him,and grabbed his shirt angrily.

'aisa Nahi hoga Meerab, main Janta hoon Jo mainay Kiya Woh buhat galat tha', he held her hands.

' You told me you loved me . You said mujhay yahan say koi Nahi nikay ga Kay yay mera Ghar hai, phir khud hi Ghar say bahir nikal Diya, aur phir jab Dil Kiya wapis yahan lay ay. Aur main Kuch Nahi Kar sagi.

You said you would wait for me to say yes but you didn't. agar Mainay bewafai ki Tou Murtasim tum nay bhi apnay Kiyay har waday say bewafai ki thi.

Lekin koi baat Nahi, ap ki marzi ap Jo karain meray sath, main ap ki biwi hoon, ap ko koi Nahi rokay ga. Jaan say bhi mardain gay Tou Kuch Nahi hoga. Main apni qismat say aur Nahi lar sakti.'

' meerab I know Kay Jo hua Woh tumharay liyay bardasht Karna buhat mushkil tha , lekin ab dekho Haya bhi challi gayi hai aur main maafi maang Raha hoon', the resignation in her voice was killing him.

'aJ ap maafi mang Rahay kal phir gussa Aya mujh per tou ..', Meerab let go of his shirt and let out a hysterical laugh.

He pulled her into his arms as she sobbed. What had he done to her?

He tried a different approach, picking up the box he had brought in, ' I got you a gift'

' It's beautiful', Meerab picked up the sparkling diamond necklace.

' Dekha Tou tum Yaad agayi', he lifted her hair slipping it around her neck.

Meerab traced the diamond pattern with a finger, ' aur is ki kya qeemat chukani hogi mujhay ?'

'Kuch Nahi meri Jaan , I just thought you would like it.' , Murtasim felt exhausted.

Meerab reached up and pulled off her shirt, '

' Meerab Nahi', he held her hand to stop her, horrified.

' ap nay Islamabad ghumanay kay liyay bhi Tou..., Is liyay mujhay laga is Kay liyay bhi.'

Murtasim wanted to punch himself, how had he broken her so completely. How had he reduced her to this. He felt so disgusted with himself, what kind of a person was he that his wife thought he would require that if her in return of a simple gift.

' Meri Jaan it's just a gift', he knew he had to treat her very gently now.

' aj him dinner room main hi kartain Hain okay.', Marium had left leaving just them and Maa Begum as Anwar had recently started spending time in his own portion.

' Jaisa ap bolain'

'Meerab please aisay mat bolo, mujh say buhat bari Galti hui lekin yay mat karo.' , he could remember how she had begged him to stop and how he had ignored her. And now to protect herself she had build up these walls , he would spend the rest of his life trying to break them if he has to.

'mujhay meri Meerab wapis Chahiyay, Woh Meerab jis Kay pass her baat Ka jawab tha. Baby I promise I'll never force you to do anything again.' , he looked into his eyes hoping to see the spark he missed so desperately.

Meerab looked away from him, 'ap ko zabardasti karnay ki zaroorat Nahi hai Mujhay ap ki har baat Manzoor hai. '
