But when I do, it is at the thought of you.
The memory of meeting you for the first time.
It was like I was your waterfall
And you were my stream.
Before I met you I was like a river,
Lost into my own flow of life,
Drifting between every unknown place.
Meeting you was realizing
This is where I belong.
Every conversation with you
Is deeply embedded into my soul.
I was like an empty well,
Fervently waiting for rain.
Each of your words fell like raindrops
Filling me up to the heart's content.
It was like finally being at home,
What is home?
But a place long forgotten,
Abandoned for years
Forsaken like a pagan temple.
All I find now are books filled with dust.
My memories are covered with cobwebs.
Its walls were once filled with paintings.
Like I cannot remember their history.
Its colors are now faded and worn.
Meeting you was like finally returning
Before the reality took over me.
I smile because I finally remember now.
How I used to run and play
Inside the shrine of my temple.
How I used to sing and dance
For the rituals deemed agnostic.
How I would fill each of the walls
With murals of my own art.
Its pillars adorned with flowers
Decorated the altar with my creativity.
How my songs used to rattle the hearts
Of those who listened to my voice.
How the swing of my hips would fill the eyes
Of those who witnessed me with awe.
I smile because I remember everything.
I do not smile more often.
But if I do, then it is at the thought of you,
Promising me not to leave me alone.
So I go back into the world which took me.
I do the cleaning and fold the laundry.
As I smile through each of the tasks.
The mundane chores no longer bore me.
Neither do the bittersweet reality overwhelm me.
When I smile, it is the memory of us.
Our little secret and our rediscovered world.
