I thought you were a poison

So I avoided you like death.

While doing so, I'd forgotten

To live and to take a breath.

I thought you were a disease

So I drowned myself in pills.

And yet I failed to realise

I wasn't the one who was ill.

I did not want to forgive

To let go of the burning coal.

So, instead I was digging deep

Into my wounds, painful and old.

All I needed was to believe

To open my eyes and see.

If there's anyone left to forgive

Then surely, it is nobody but me.
