Warning: This chapter briefly talks about death and murder. It doesn't go too much into detail, but if you are too uncomfortable with the subject you can just skip that part of the chapter. Just quickly scroll down after Moon asks, "Remember when I had that glitch?" You could start reading it again at the second to last paragraph. You have been warned.
You were now home, feeling exhausted from what happened earlier that day. You managed to take a warm shower and change into pajamas before getting into bed, but something stopped you from falling asleep completely. You couldn't tell if it was because of Sun and Moons love for you, or if it was because of the bright moonlight that escaped through the blinds of your windows. Either way, your mind wasn't letting you fall asleep, and you hated it.
After 15 minutes of tossing and turning, you got up from bed to get the last of the Moondrop candies Moon gave you. Despite them being for kids, they still worked very well for you. You popped one into your mouth as you put on the video of Moon singing on your phone, but as you laid in your bed you realized that it wasn't going to help much. As the audio entered your ears, many thoughts flooded your mind for the second time that day.
What am I going to do for Valentines Day? I mean, I like them as friends but I think that loving them would be stepping over the line. They're literally robots! That would be wrong! Right?
You sighed as you quickly paused the video and closed your eyes. You kept them closed in hopes that you would fall asleep faster, and it worked. Kind of. It took about an hour for you to fall asleep, but at least you slept, right?
The alarm on your phone sang its awful, irritating song to wake you up after you had about 5 hours of sleep, and you felt terrible. You hoped that Moon wouldn't notice your slight lack of sleep as you got ready for work, but at the same time you needed more of those Moondrop's. You still had a little over an hour to get there before it opens, so you decided to get a coffee on the way. Maybe that would change your tired appearance.
You managed to drink it all before you made it to the pizzeria, and you felt a little more refreshed exiting your car to feel the cool breeze passing you. You started thinking of what to do before entering, and decided to just ask him for a few of those sleeping candies before the daycare opened. Sun was too obsessed with making sure that everything was in its place around this time, so you knew that it was the perfect time to ask without him getting too freaked out over Sun knowing. Or did he already know?
Before you could even get your hands on the large doors, they opened for you. Sun and Moon were behind them, greeting you happily as you passed them.
"Hello Y/N," Sun chirped, "How are you today?"
"Good," You replied happily, "How about you two?"
"Good as well!" They told you in unison.
You sat down behind the front counter, "That's great!"
You checked the cameras to the place on one of the computers as they both went to do their normal morning things. Nothing bad seemed to have happened while you were gone, and you were relieved to see that. After you were done, you walked over to Moon, who seemed to be sulking in his nest of blankets and pillows again.
"Hey Moon?"
"Yes, starlight?"
You froze to the sound of that nickname, but still asked, "Can I have some more if those Moondrops? They've been helping me sleep a ton lately."
Without a moment of hesitation Moon sprung up from his vulnerable position, nodding as he ran to where his famous candies were.
"Thanks Moon!" You called out.
He returned shortly after you said so, handing you enough to get through the rest of the week, "No problem."
He went back to sulking in his large nest, but you decided to stop him from doing it by sitting beside him.
"Why do you always look sad here?" You asked.
Moon looked at you, seeming surprised that you asked, "You wouldn't understand."
"I know," you replied, "but I'm still here to at least help."
"You can't help with this, Y/N." He told you.
For about a minute, the only thing that could be heard was Sun humming the daycares theme from a distance. Despite hearing it 24/7, Sun still loved the tune dearly.
"Well, can you at least tell me?" You finally asked.
Moon hesitated before asking you, "Remember when I had that glitch?"
You nodded, and he continued.
"Well, thanks to that glitch... to cut it short... Kids went missing because of me."
You froze. You've heard a ton about kids going missing, only to be found dead a few days after. There was about 9 cases that followed that pattern before the fire, and luckily for everyone the business had the right amount of money to rebuild the place and fix the animatronics that didn't make it out successfully. You knew that the glitch was in almost all of the animatronics, but you thought that it was Monty or Roxanne that did it all. Knowing that it was Moon now made you feel uneasy. Moon saw it too, so he continued talking.
"Even though it technically wasn't fully my fault... I still feel a ton of guilt for it all, you know that?" Moon looked down at the ground, "You see, when you end a persons life... Sometimes you could still see them. They're not really there, but it feels like they are."
You place a hand on the large ring that was on his back, and he flinched. Usually the silver cable that allowed him to "fly" was the thing that touched it, so the feeling was different for him.
"I'm sorry that this happened to you Moon." you apologized. You honestly felt bad for him now.
Moon didn't even stop there. He kept on talking, and he talked faster as if in a panic.
"The worst thing about it all was that I didn't see what was happening. As soon as I got the urge red blocked my vision. It was... as if someone else had taken control and didn't want me to see. It was terrifying."
A drop of oil dropped onto the ground. Was he crying? You hugged him before he could even continue with his story. Knowing that he killed children in the past still scared you, but that didn't matter anymore. The way he explained his side of the story made him seem more innocent to you.
"I should've tried harder to stop it." He whimpered
"Its okay," You assured him, "Everyone still figured out either way, and it is now gone. You still won against it either way."
His oil tears continued to fall onto the ground as he silently cried. You could tell that he was unable to stop, and assured him that it was okay to cry. You still had 20 minutes left, so there was still plenty of time for him to calm himself down. Sun realized what was happening and ran over to help his brother. He knew Moon more than anyone else, and managed to cheer him up in the matter of minutes. He didn't know it, but he managed to cheer you up as well. It made you temporarily forget about the previous day as you all began to play while you waited for the children to arrive.
You were beginning to like them even more.
