It's a trap, Cindy could hear her inner voice saying to her. The way Jake was staring at her made her feel uncomfortable, she wanted to run but could not. Her dad came towards her and hugged her.
" Don't you want to greet us properly," he said smiling at her and Jake followed siezing the opportunity to hug her to. Just when he was at it Cindy could feel his heart pounding as if it was fighting for air, she moved away after the brief geeting to avoid creating an awkward atmosphere for both of them. She then suddenly remembered Jake's conversation with Macus on Thursday, this made it even more awkward for her she hoped that Jake had not mentioned marriage to her parents because she was not in for it.
"You have the perfect timing we are only left with the salad and in an hours time, dinner will be ready. I forgot about the drinks and we can't have dinner without them, I don't know what you guys want to drink but you can decide at the supermarket. You can go with Jake as we remain behind with your mom and Bianca setting up the table." Tom said this winking at Jake and Jake nodding in agreement.
Things were happening so fast and Cindy could not believe, she could clearly see what her parents were up to and they never gave her an opportunity to have her way. She did not like her fathers idea at all, she had been avoiding such a scenario for a long time, she didn't know it would come to this. While still in her thoughts Jake lightly tapped her signaling her that they were suppose to leave. Cindy followed behind like a sheep being led to a slaughter house without questioning her father's opinion.
Cindy was heading to the back seat but Jake opened the door of the front seat and ushered her in. She sat and tied her seat belt, then Jake hopped in on the other side and started the car.
"Take your time," Rachael shouted smiling at both of them.
"Yes take your time besty and bring me a baby sister."
Bianca shouted at her sister as the car left. Rachael covered Bianca's mouth and Cindy could hear her tell her that they needed to get married first before bringing a baby sister.Cindy just stared at her family in disbelief and couldn't believe Bianca had also betrayed her. Jake was in the car laughing and seemed to be enjoying what was happening because it was all in his favour.
As he drove they were both quiet for sometime and Cindy continuously stared outside the window. Jake looked at her hands and she had held on to her hoody and was fidgeting. He then broke the ice,
"Sorry for breaking into your house without permission, I tried calling but could not reach you and I found myself driving to your house." Cindy neither responded nor looked at Jake, her eyes were still gazing outside and her head did not move an inch to look at him.
He then turned on the radio to break the awkwardness that filled the atmosphere. He was so worried that Cindy was rejecting him with all her strength, but he wanted to try his best, he was grateful that Rachel had told them to take their time. He had driven past many supermarkets and Cindy was wondering where they were going, it was already half an hour and they had not talked nor reached their destination. She had been intetionally ignoring him and yet Jake pretended not to get he was being rejected.
"Are we not stopping, where exactly are we heading to." She asked finally gaining the courage to look at him.
"We are almost there, hold on a little bit." His phone rung, it was Andria calling.
"Hello sir, Marcus called and is scheduling a dinning meeting with you on sunday evening there are other specifics he wanted and I have sent the document to your email, should I say yes."
"Ah sunday.....yes please tell him it's okay."
"Thank you sir and do have a great day. "
They had reached a mall and he parked the car and stepped outside. Cindy was removing her seat belt and it was troubling her, it seemed that it was holding on to something and it had refused loosening up. Jake opened the door of the left side of the car where Cindy was sitting and immediately ran to her rescue.
He pulled the seat belt with all his strength and it finally broke free, they unexpectedly stared at each other for ten seconds and Cindy's heart was betraying her.
