i wake up to the warm feeling i felt the night before, this time, the sun was up and hitting my eyes. shifting a little in bed to remove the sun from my eyes, i feel a body against mine, and then remember the events of the day prior.
slowly, i open my eyes, to find leo looking directly at me, beaming. i felt my heart begin to explode.
he's still here.
i watched as he pulled his arms to his chest, with something in his hands. my eyes moved over to baby mia, who was awake and all smiles like her fever was never there. my jaw was agape, as i exchange glances from leo then to my daughter, who was still by his chest.
"good morning." he spoke, pressing his lips to my forehead. his forehead kisses were my favorite.
"good morning." i replied in a soft tone. i took mia from his arms and held her against her chest, pressing kisses on her head. giggles were heard from down below.
"she didn't wake up at all?" i asked, slightly confused as to how mia ended up with us. i felt her forehead with my hand. "looks like she's all better."
"nope. i woke up a little bit ago and went to the other room to check up on her. she was awake so i decided to bring her over here and let you rest." he explained, taking his hand and petting her head gently.
to say we were close to each other was an understatement. my mind was hazy and completely empty. i didn't take into account where we were, what we were doing, and why this was all happening. i don't think he thought much of it either. but because of the witches who were able to possess both him and i, i thanked him with a kiss; a soft and gentle one that he welcomed with open arms. we departed from each other within a number of seconds, but the feeling of his lips touching mine so tenderly remained in my head for a while.
"thank you." i mumbled, partly because i was still tired and partly because he was just inches away from me.
"no problem." he answered. then after a moment's pause, added, "breakfast?"
i cackled before myself. "i'm starved."
so both of us hopped out of bed, mia was in my arms, making noises with her tongue and hugging her mummy tightly. it bewildered me how my small little girl who was so sick got better so quickly. sometimes i forget little children like her make miraculous recoveries that adults cannot.
we went down the flight of stairs, leo right in front of us. he made his way over to the kitchen while i brought mia and i over to the counter we could sit by which was connected to the kitchen. i enjoyed watching him cook, and was excited to see what he was going to make for us.
"do you mind getting mia's milk from the fridge?" i asked him while he was fetching some bowls, a pan, and some other ingredients.
"yeah, sure." he went over to the fridge and found mia's bottle full of milk. i took it appreciatively and put it in her mouth, which latched onto it immediately.
"you're a doll." i smiled, watching my daughter drink the milk. "look at her, my poor girl must be so hungry."
he stood by us for a second, his elbows on the counter, in awe of mia.
he saw her grow up too. he was there from the start. watching her get so big so fast must've been hard for him if it was for me. i remember her being the size of a bean in my belly, i remember her kicking my back and my stomach so violently it seemed like she was so big, yet seeming so small as i held her in the hospital bed for the first time. leo was there in the same room. we were in the middle of filming when he took me to the hospital because my water had broken. he waited outside and a nurse called him in when mia was born. i can still envision the look on his face when he arrived at the scene.
