Chapter 6

“Did you hear they’re going out?”

“OMG!”

“I can’t believe Sarah got that HOTTIE!”

“Wow when did Ash get so smoking hot?”

“Yeah but he’s taken”

“Damn it. But knowing Sarah it won’t last,”

“Shh, they’re coming!”

I looked up from my tray when I saw Ash and Sarah, hand in hand, walking through the doors, the whole cheerleader group following behind them. Ash looked at me and smiled, but Sarah pulled him toward the “cool table”.

My heart sank when Ash sat down beside Sarah and I quietly watched them talk. Sarah kissed Ash, making the girls look at her and Ash with envy.

Why do I feel like this?! What the hell... I thought.

I sighed and just when I got up I bumped into a hard chest. I looked up and met Ash’s eyes, sparkling.

“Hey!” he grinned. I could barely smile back.

“Sorry I have to go,” I really wanted to run out of the cafeteria, but I knew that Ash was looking (along with Sarah and about a hundred other students) so I walked over to the bin and dumped my remaining food inside, then I calmly put the tray on top of it.

Then I ran, because, I couldn’t really care less if he noticed or not.

A week later avoiding Ash got more difficult. He kept leaving messages on my phone, kept calling me and whenever I saw him in the hallways I ran into the nearest bathroom. We barely had any classes together, so I was saved.

But I missed him, and just the thought of him hanging out with Sarah...kissing...and he’s my best friend, so it was ok for me to feel like this, right?

I was such a hypocrite. I was the one who got them together and now when Ash is happy I can’t be? Even if it means I’m no longer in the picture.

Even Sarah wasn’t even bothering to talk to me anymore, after 2 weeks of so called “friendship” I realised she was only using me for Ash.

I meandered through the hallway of students who were eager to get home, like every day at home time.

Suddenly I was caught by the collar and dragged into the women’s bathroom. I turned around and there was, well...Ash.

He looked angry.

“What the hell, Taylor! I texted you, called you, even visited the freakin’ library and you know I don’t do books-“

“That’s cause you’re doing Sarah now-”

He gave me a look and I shut up.

“And I came around to your house but you never answer the door, and I swear could hear you shout ‘no one answer that, it’s a stalker from school!’ I mean, come on! Why are you avoiding me? Why won’t you talk to me?”

Ash watched me think. I mean, what should I say. Ash licked his lips and I looked at them. Full, slightly redish lips. Lips that Sarah kissed. I semi-scowled.

“Well?” Ash said impatiently. I hugged him tight, and caught him off guard. He chuckled a little and squeezed me back.

“I’m sorry.” I whispered.

“Hey, it’s cool. Best friends, right?”

“...right.” I smiled.

**2 years later/Now**

I barely closed my locker before two hands covered my eyes. I yelped in surprise but there’s only one person who would do something like that; Ash.

“Guess who?”

“Stuck up bastard?”

Ash laughed, “Nope, guess again.”

“Oh, I don’t know!” I played along. “Give me a clue!”

“I’m tall and handsome.”

I laughed. “Sam?”

Ash removed his hands and I turned around to face him.

“What? Who’s Sam?” Ash crossed his arms.

“Nobody you need to worry about.” I tried to walk past him but he blocked my path, shaking his head.

“Nah ah.” He wagged his finger at me, smirking.

I sighed and moved to the right, but Ash was fast. I tried moving to the left and he blocked me again.

“Ok tell me what you want and let’s get this over with.”

“I want to hang out!” Ash laughed and stopped when he noticed the expression on my face. Which kinda looked like this;  =_=

“Come on, please Taylor!” Ash pleaded, his eyes wide.

Oh no, I know this look...not good.

“Will you promise to leave me alone, for good, if I do?”

“Yup.” Ash smiled.

I raised an eyebrow.

“I promise! What do you want, a pinky-promise?” Ash rolled his eyes and gave me a crooked smile. I blinked a few times.

“I’ll come around later to pick you up.” Ash starting walking away.

“Wait, wait! It’s not a date, you know that right?” I shouted after him.

In response he lifted a hand up in the air. A secret hand signal we made when we were younger. My eyes widened.

“Ash!!” I stomped my foot like a little child and I could hear him laughing as he turned around the corner.
