Chapter 10

I typed in curse words in Google Translate, set it English to English and hit “translate”. And then calmed down when I heard the robot say the words.

“Ashton is a-“

I turned it off when Vanessa walked into the room.

“Hey,” she grinned.

“not a good time, V.” I sighed.

“Mom told me to tell you that we’re inviting the Lyons over for dinner.”

I gaped. “What?!”

“We’re allowed to invite someone over though.” Vanessa said.

I smiled then. “Thanks V.”

When she left, I grabbed my phone and dialled Sam’s number.

“Hey Sam.”

“Hi babe. What’s up?”

I smirked to myself. “I think it’s time you meet my family.”

**

I walked downstairs and I could hear my family in the kitchen preparing the dinner. Why the hell did we have to invite them?? Oh yeah, because “it’ll be a great way to connect with them after these past 2 years, remember how good friends we were?” according to my parents. Ugh, it’ll be really embarrassing...

As I passed the door I could hear faint voices from outside.

“...You shouldn’t have invited her, Ashton! We’re the guests, we’re not the ones who get a say in who to invite or not. We’re the ones who were invited!”

“But dad, we’re the guests. And these are the Bryons, of course it’s fine.”

“Just ring the doorbell.”

Wait, who did Ash invite? I sighed and quickly ran my hand through my hair before opening the door.

“Hi.” I smiled politely and stepped aside to let them in. Ash and Sarah walked past me and into the living room.

What a Jerk! Can’t even look at me.. I thought, frowning.

“Oh Taylor, honey, you look lovely,” Ash’s mother grinned and hugged me. She had a plate of tasty looking pie in her hand.

“Thanks Mrs. Lyons.”

Mr. Lyons hugged me too and they disappeared behind the kitchen door. I sighed and closed the door loudly. Sarah and Ash were kissing in the living room. I rolled my eyes in disgust and was about to go upstairs when the door bell rang again.

My face lit up immediately as I opened it and jumped into Sam’s hands. He had a bouquet of roses in his hand and he laughed and embraced me.

“Hey.” He kissed me lightly on the lips.

“Hi.” I grinned and took his hand, dragging him into the kitchen. Everybody looked up, my mom at the stove with Mrs. Lyons and my dad opening a bottle of champagne with Mr. Lyons.

“Mom, Dad, this is Sam, my boyfriend.” I introduced Sam who smiled confidently. He handed my mom the roses.

“Oh thanks..Sam.” Mom smiled and exchanged a look with me. I smiled innocently and my dad shook hands with Sam.

“Nice to meet you son.” Dad offered Sam a glass of champagne to Sam but Sam shook his head.

“No thank you Mr. Bryon. No alcohol for me.” Sam laughed.

Dad patted Sam on the back. “Good choice, Sam.”

Just then Sarah and Ash walked into the kitchen. Ash glared at Sam but I just grinned at Sam and avoided Ash’s eyes.

I grabbed Sam’s hand and started pulling him. “Come on Sam. Let’s go up to my room.”

When we reached my room I closed the door behind us and Sam looked around. He smiled at me and I kissed him, putting my arms around his neck. He wound his arms around my waist and pulled me close.

We were getting into it and I pushed him on the bed.

I won’t do anything stupid...

I kissed him furiously and he twirled a strand of my hair on his finger and pulled gently. He was a great kisser, had to give him that. He rolled around so he was on top now, and pinned me down.

“Ha, gotcha.” Sam winked and unbuttoned his shirt.

“Sam-“ I was about to say something when the door opened and Ash walked in. He crossed his arms and leaned against the doorframe.

“Dinner’s ready.” He said and left.

Sam sighed and I laughed nervously.

**

“Pork’s good Mrs. Bryon.” Ash said, chewing happily.

“Yeah...tasty.” Sarah said with a kind of disgusted look on her face. Of course, she was a vegetarian.

“Who wants some more champagne?” My dad asked, pouring himself one more glass. Mr. Lyons laughed.

“Pour me some, Jim.” Mr. Lyons held his glass as my dad poured him some champagne.

“Stephanie, will you pass me the salt please?” My mom asked and Mrs. Lyons passed her the salt.

I sighed of boredom and took another bite out of a carrot. Sam, who was sitting beside me, had this ‘I’m so glad to be here’ smile on his face.

I looked over at little Ms. Perfect Sarah. She rolled her eyes and moved some meat to the edge of her plate then looked up and caught Sam’s eye. They exchanged a look and I sat straighter up in my chair and took Sam’s hand, warning Sarah.

Sam squeezed my hand and grinned at me. When I looked back at Sarah she glared at me and ate some broccoli. Ash looked up from his plate and our eyes met and I leaned closer to Sam and kissed him. When I looked back at Ash he was looking at Sarah, who was looking at Sam.

What is going on? I frowned.

**

“It was nice to finally talk again, Stephanie.” Mom hugged Mrs. Lyons. They were, finally, going home. Ash had his arm around Sarah’s slim waist but had his poker-face on.

Sam already left, so I was standing around with Vanessa. She hugged everybody and went upstairs.

“Well, I got to go baby. Kisses!” Sarah blew a kiss to Ash and left. My parents and Ash’s parents were talking outside and it was just me and Ash in the hallway.

Awkward silence.

“That was ridiculous.” Ash sighed.

“What?” I narrowed my eyes.

“Inviting Sam over to make me jealous? Really?”

“I invited him over so he could meet my family and you’re the one talking. Sarah, really?” I rolled my eyes.

Ash shrugged. “Sarah’s my girlfriend.”

“Sam’s my boyfriend.”

We looked at each other for a while before I turned around and started walking upstairs. “Goodnight.” I snapped before I closed my bedroom door behind me.
