Chapter 2

“Ladies,” I heard his voice in the corridor and turned around, bumping into Lauren. She sighed.

“Come on, it’s the shortest way to class. Let’s just walk past him, ignore him.” Lauren nudged me and started walking toward Ash. I grabbed her by her collar and pulled her back.

“Are you crazy?” I hissed and turned her around so that we were walking the other way, longer but safer way. Ash-free.

“You never told me what happened between you and Ash...and how come you and Sarah aren’t friends anymore?”

I shrugged. “Old news.”

“Fine, but I’ll find out somehow.” Lauren winked.

“Yeah, yeah. Sorry have to get to class, see you later.” I hugged her, laughing. I took a glimpse at my watch and noticed that I was late and ran to class.

“You’re late, Ms.Bryon.” my maths teacher snapped.

“Sorry.” I quickly scanned the room for a seat and caught Ash’s eyes. The teacher cleared her throat and I sat down.

For the rest of the lesson I doodled stick figures of me and Ash. Me kicking him. Me hitting him with my bag. Me punching-

“Ms.Bryon? Would you care to show us your amazing ability to draw, since you obviously can’t pay attention?”

I shook my head and closed my notebook, blushing. Everybody seemed to stare at me and I fidgeted in my seat.

Thank God the bell rang right at that moment. I stuffed my things into my bag and made a dash for it.

I opened my locker and got my books for my next class. Suddenly my locker was slammed shut, and it wasn’t me. I turned around, shocked, and two strong hands pinned me down.

“Hey.” Ash smiled.

“Get off.” I squirmed in his grip but he held me, determined to keep me still. I relaxed after a few seconds and he let me go. I made my move then. Grabbing a book from my bag, I hit him on the head twice before I, calmly, put it back into my bag.

Ash held a hand up to rub his head but he was still grinning. I frowned and crossed my arms.

“What do you want?”

“Do you want some help with those?” Ash nodded towards my small pile of books on my arm. I shook my head.

“No thanks, I’m strong enough to carry them.” I moved past him but he followed me. Ash laughed and the sound made me stiff for a moment, as memories came back...

“Yeah, believe me I know that.” He rubbed his head again.

“You deserved that.” I smiled a little.

Ash shrugged. He was walking beside me now. I stopped walking and turned to face him.

“Stop following me.”

“But I want to talk,” Ash fake-pouted.

“Right, well I don’t. I can’t be seen around with you.” I glanced round the hall but everyone was pretty busy chatting and getting their books.

you can’t be seen around with me?” Ash snorted. I fought the urge to hit him again and instead walked away.

When the bell rang everybody made a run for the door, enthusiastic to get out and go home.

“Hey T, sorry I can’t drive you home today, I’m in a hurry,  sorry!” Lauren hugged me.

“It’s alright, I’ll call you later” I grinned at her and she disappeared in the crowd of students.

“Well well, well. Taylor Bryon! It’s been a while, right?”

I winced and turned around, expecting to see Sarah, and there she was with her blond friend, Blaire.

“Don’t think I forgot what you did two years ago, bitch. Now if you excuse me, I have to go meet up with Ash.”

“Ash?” I mumbled.

“Ha, yes, Ash. Did you really think he came back for you? Dream on little Tay. You made me look like an idiot, but this year will be different. Just way and see.” Sarah walked on and Blaire followed her, pushing me aside.

I walked out, and as I walked past Ash and Sarah, Sarah caught my eye and she put her arm around Ash’s shoulders.

Whatever, I thought as I headed for the bus stop.
