Present Day, Narnia
THE PENDANT SHONE under the moonlight, the chain clinking around Jamie's fingers as she fiddled with the necklace. Salt water wind blew softly against her, caressing her skin. The waves below the railing she'd been leaning on lapped on one another, gently raging with the tide. It was silent, with only the sea and the wind sounding in the dark blue night. The young girl let out a sigh, breath fusing with the cold air.
Memories embedded in the stone of the pendant flashed inside her mind, some nostalgic, most painful. In truth, Jamie feared the day she would have to set eyes on it once more. But then again, it was hers, by Narnian birthright. She was made to wear it, and use its power. And only she. If it fell to the wrong hands . . . she didn't want to find out what would happen. So she'd kept it close, and entrusted it to a friend when she had gone. The friend being an ancestor of Caspian.
"Can't sleep?" A voice asked behind her. Jamie turned to see a disheveled Edmund approaching. It was only then did she remember her small outburst, a little embarrassed. "Listen, I know you're still angry about earlier, but I wanted to apologize. It wasn't fair of us to outrule your input. Especially when you've known these lands longer than we have."
Jamie sighed. "It's alright. I'm sorry too. I know it must also be hard on you, being bypassed all the time." She said softly, as Edmund stood beside her by the railing. "It seems they've decided we're too old and outdated." Jamie added jokingly.
Edmund let out a snort. "If it's not Peter being all high and mighty, it's Caspian. I'm sick and tired of being a sidekick all the time."
"Yeah. That must suck." Jamie stole a glance at the dark haired lad, who had his stare steady far ahead. Edmund laughed wryly at that, glancing down at the pendant she still kept fiddling with in her hands.
"What is it exactly?" Asked Edmund.
"They call it the Lilitheian Pendant, or the Pendant of the Night. It belongs to Lilith, my supposed mother here in Narnia. It holds a great power that is given to anyone who wields it. It is also quite dangerous." She explained, meeting his gaze. "Which is why Aslan had entrusted it to me, before. And now it has returned to me. In truth, I don't know what to do with it."
"If it gives the wearer that much power, why don't you use it? It's yours after all."
"It's not that easy." Jamie replied. "I wore it once and . . . there were consequences. It should only be used when it is most necessary."
"I see." Edmund hydrated his lips. Quiet soon melded between them, a million unspoken words traveling through the dwindling seconds. Seconds turned into minutes turned into years of searching for a half of a whole. To feel one, to feel loved. Jamie has known romantic love before, despite what she had told others. But, with Edmund, it was a gravitational tug she couldn't seem to escape even if she tried. It would be no use. "I love you, Jamie Van Halen, I've realized it for a while now."
