DINNER

**Catherine's POV**

I wasn’t shocked by the affair, but her pregnancy caught me off guard. How much more could he hurt me? I shouldn’t have accepted him in the first place. A playboy will always be a playboy.

After work, I drove to the restaurant where James had arranged dinner. I parked the car and walked to the entrance, where James was waiting. I wanted to hit him with my heels. He still had the nerve to show his face to me.

"I've arranged a private room for us," he said. I just walked ahead without a word.

As I entered, I saw James's dad, mom, and Susan. But I didn’t expect Daniel, Victor, and Selin to be there.

"Come, sit, Catherine," his mom called out.

"What's the big news?" Selin asked, as everyone waited eagerly. James sat on the other side of the table, and all eyes turned to him.

"I'm going to be a dad," James announced. Everyone started clapping and cheering.

"Good news," James’s dad said.

"Congratulations, you two!" his mom added.

"Not me," I said, sipping water from my glass. The room fell silent, and everyone looked confused and waited for James to explain further.

It had just become more interesting. I watched James swallow hard.

"Elena is pregnant with my baby," he finally admitted.

The room went completely silent for a minute.

"Are you kidding me?" Susan asked. I knew she had her suspicions, but even she didn’t expect this. Neither did I.

"What are you going to do?" his dad asked in a stern voice.

"I don’t know how to handle this," James replied, like a lost child. I couldn’t believe he was so clueless about the consequences.

"What do you think?" Jordan asked James’s mom, who had been covering her mouth with her hand. She returned to her composed self and said, "The woman is pregnant with our son’s baby."

I knew she wanted a grandchild, but I didn’t expect her to be okay with this situation.

"If the child is yours, we can’t just leave them on the streets," Jordan said. James visibly relaxed, having hoped for this response.

"Thank you, Dad," he said.

"I don’t want to punish a baby for its parents' mistakes," Jordan added, looking at me. "Now, you need to divorce Catherine."

I had been waiting for this. I hoped James would act like a man, but he remained the same. He wanted everything but couldn’t stand up for anything.

"Are you okay with that?" Jordan asked me. I nodded.

"Sign the divorce papers quickly and don’t bother her again," he ordered.

"Okay, Dad," James agreed.

"And from now on, don’t call me Dad," Mr. Jordan warned him. James’s eyes widened in shock. He never imagined this. Becoming a father meant losing his own father. But he knew better than to argue with Jordan, so he kept quiet.

Jordan looked at me, and I watched the scene unfold like a drama. The dinner was on the table, but everyone had lost their appetite.

"Do you have anything to say?" Susan asked. I could see the anger in her and Jordan’s eyes. His mom still held out hope for a grandchild and was, as always, on her son’s side.

I was ready to leave. I had nothing left to ask of James. So, I stood up from the chair.

"You guys knew about this?" I asked the three people I once considered friends. They didn’t react.

"Cat, we—" Selin started, but Victor and Daniel were looking down. I had my answer.

It wasn’t just James who betrayed me. Selin, Victor, and Daniel had all deceived me too. We were supposed to be friends, but they chose him over me. They protected a cheater.

"We’re not friends anymore," I said, turning to leave. They called my name, but I didn’t stop. I didn’t want to stay with traitors any longer.

As I drove, tears welled up in my eyes. I had been like a sister to Selin, even attending her engagement. I told her James was in Japan, but they were all playing me. My vision blurred, and the car swerved.

Another car overtook mine, and the driver got out and opened my door. It was Dominic.

"What happened, Cat?" he asked. I didn’t have the energy to explain everything. He understood and helped me into his car. We drove for half an hour before he stopped.

"Come out," he said, opening the door. We were at a park. I followed him and sat on a bench. We sat in silence.

"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked. "It might help ease the burden."

"Family problems," I replied. I didn’t want to bore him with my story, so I kept it brief.

"I heard about the divorce," he said. Of course, Wad is his best friend, and they both hate James.

"Yes," I said.

"And what happened now?" he asked. I turned to face him.

"Elena is pregnant. Selin, Victor, and Daniel all knew but kept it from me," I said, tears streaming down my face. He patted my back, and I leaned into his arms, crying. His suit was getting wet, but he didn’t seem to mind.

After what felt like an eternity, I woke up. I must have fallen asleep from crying, with my head resting on his shoulder. As I regained consciousness, I sat up and noticed his suit had black streaks from my mascara.

Oh my God. I grabbed my phone and looked at my reflection in the camera. My face was a mess, with black smudges everywhere. He offered me his handkerchief, and I wiped my face clean.

"Has anyone ever told you you're cute?" he asked, amused.

"I know," I replied. He smiled at my response.

"Cat, James may not appreciate your worth, but there are others who do," he said.

"Where are they? I don’t see anyone," I said, glancing around the park.

"Look next to you," he said sincerely.

What did he mean by that? Whatever it was, his words made me feel a little better.

He drove me back to my car, but my mind kept replaying what he had said.
